Sunday marked the final home fixtures of the season for both Barcelona and Atlético Madrid, delivering an emotionally charged day of football across La Liga.
The Rojiblancos, who edged past Girona 1–0 at Riyadh Air Metropolitano, witnessed a tearful farewell lap from talismanic forward Antoine Griezmann, who will leave the club this summer following a combined 10 seasons across two spells (2014–2019, 2021–2026), heading to MLS side Orlando City.
Barça, who saw off Real Betis 3–1 at the Camp Nou, said a moving goodbye to prolific striker Robert Lewandowski, who departs the club this summer as a free agent after four seasons.
Both players exchanged touching words with their clubs, fellow players, and home crowds as they look ahead to the next chapters of their careers.

Following the final whistle, Griezmann re-emerged onto the pitch through the players' tunnel to the strains of U2's "With Or Without You" and was honored with a guard of honor formed by his teammates. He was soon joined by his wife and four children for a video tribute that captivated the entire stadium, revisiting the defining highlights of his storied career in Madrid.
The 35-year-old French international then took to the microphone to address the club, his teammates, and most notably, the supporters — expressing not only deep gratitude, but also genuine remorse.
"First, I want to thank you all for standing by me," he said following the video tribute. "This is incredible. Second, and this is very important: I know many of you have already heard this, while some haven't yet, but I want to apologize once more [for leaving the club]. I didn't fully understand how much love I had here. I was very young, I made a mistake, I reflected on it, and we did everything possible to return here and experience it all again."
Griezmann, Atletico's all-time record goalscorer with 212 goals in 500 appearances across all competitions, briefly departed the club in 2019 to sign for FC Barcelona before making his return to Madrid in 2021.

"I want to thank my teammates — from 2014 right up to today, it has been extraordinary to share every day, every training session, every battle, every win and every loss. It has been incredible to fight side by side with you.
"...I wasn't able to deliver a La Liga title or a Champions League trophy. But what I feel tonight means so much more to me; I will carry your love with me for the rest of my life."
Griezmann is set to join America's top-flight league following the World Cup international break this summer, becoming the latest high-profile European star to make his mark in MLS.

Lewandowski broke down in tears at the final whistle of Barcelona's match, before being embraced by his teammates and lifted into the air in celebration. He was met with a standing ovation from the Camp Nou crowd and a guard of honor from his fellow players.
"For me, this is a very emotional and difficult day," the 37-year-old Polish striker said into the microphone. "When I arrived in Barcelona, I knew this was a massive club, but your support has been truly extraordinary. From day one, I felt right at home here.
"I will never forget hearing you chant my name. Thank you to my teammates, the coaches, and everyone who works at this club. It has been an honor to wear the Barça shirt. We have shared wonderful moments over these four years. I am incredibly proud of everything we accomplished together. Today I say farewell to this stadium, but Barça will always have a place in my heart. Visca el Barça and Visca Catalunya."

Lewandowski reportedly remained on the pitch well past midnight, strolling around the field and posing for countless photos to fully absorb the occasion.
He departs Barcelona having scored 119 goals in 191 appearances, placing him 14th on the club's all-time scoring list. Over his four-year tenure, he contributed to seven trophies: three league titles (2022–23, 2024–25, 2025–26), one Copa del Rey (2024–25), and three Spanish Super Cups (2022–23, 2024–25, 2025–26).
The newly available free agent has reportedly attracted interest from several Premier League heavyweights as well as MLS clubs.
