Hansi Flick Achieves Historic Barcelona Feat Only Reached by Champions League Winners
Hansi Flick's Barcelona have developed an addiction to winning, and their most recent success has pushed their victory run across all tournaments to 11 consecutive matches, marking the second-longest streak in the club's history.
Barcelona overcame Racing Santander 2–0 on Thursday evening to book their spot in the Copa del Rey quarterfinals. This win carried much greater importance, however, as Barcelona achieved 11 straight victories for just the fourth time this century, and in all previous occasions, the Catalans proceeded to claim the Champions League that year.
Luis Enrique supervised Barcelona's most recent 11-match winning sequence during the 2014–15 campaign. Prior to that, Pep Guardiola accomplished this milestone throughout Barcelona's dominant 2008–09 season. The Catalans secured trebles in both campaigns.

Flick's Barcelona remain seven matches short of the club's record winning streak, an 18-game sequence under Dutch coach Frank Rijkaard during 2005–06. During the height of the Ronaldinho period, Barcelona captured their second Champions League trophy in club history that season.
History indicates that such winning streaks are typically reserved for Barcelona's finest and most triumphant teams. The jury remains out on whether Flick's Barcelona will maintain this pattern, but the German has arguably constructed the strongest Blaugrana squad outside the Lionel Messi years since Johan Cruyff's "Dream Team."
Nevertheless, it should be noted that following the season's early months, Barcelona achieving 11 consecutive wins appeared improbable.

Barcelona's present winning run becomes even more remarkable considering its origins. The Catalans endured a challenging period earlier in the season where they lost points in five of 10 fixtures, including Flick's first Clásico loss on Oct. 26.
However, the pivotal moment arrived on Nov. 25, when Chelsea demolished Barcelona 3–0 in the Champions League. The sentiment was that the Catalans were entering a severe crisis, but Flick made a pledge following the loss that has since proven prophetic.
"Yes, we will see a different Barcelona [in the future]," Flick stated after the Chelsea defeat. "This is what I can promise. I see how we train, I see the quality, I see also the intensity and it's totally different than six weeks ago.
"The players are coming back [from injury], they increase the quality in the training and this is what I can see. I have a really good feeling about that and looking positive."
Barcelona have claimed victory in all 11 matches since Flick made his pledge, erasing a seven-point La Liga deficit to now lead the table by four points with their first trophy of the season already secured.
