Hansi Flick Drops Bombshell Confession About Robert Lewandowski's Shocking Transfer Future
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick admitted he is uncertain about Robert Lewandowski's destination for the upcoming season, as the club has not yet reached a final verdict regarding the striker's future.
Following three campaigns spearheading the attack in Catalonia, Lewandowski has unexpectedly found himself playing second string to Ferran Torres. The 37-year-old veteran no longer enjoys consistent playing time for the reigning Spanish titleholders, frequently relegated to short appearances in matches already settled.
Lewandowski, whose Barcelona deal concludes at season's end, remained on the sidelines throughout the team's commanding 5–0 victory over Athletic Bilbao in the Spanish Super Cup semifinals. Spending the entire match as an unused reserve only intensified speculation about the Polish striker's prospects.
"I cannot say where Robert Lewandowski will be playing next season. I'm genuinely pleased with his contributions, but I must be transparent. I've had discussions with him," Flick acknowledged after Wednesday's triumph in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
"We'll monitor developments and make our determination when the season concludes."
Barcelona More Active Than Anticipated in January Transfer Market
Despite uncertainties regarding Lewandowski's prospects, the forward is unlikely to pursue a departure during the January window, particularly with Barcelona maintaining a four-point advantage at the summit of La Liga.
Nevertheless, Flick's squad is conducting business this January despite ongoing financial constraints affecting the Spanish powerhouse. Sporting director Deco confirmed the organization is "completing arrangements" to secure versatile defender João Cancelo's return on loan in a transaction valued at up to €5 million ($5.8 million).
Barcelona must also address a Marc-André ter Stegen situation. The 33-year-old goalkeeper is considering his options after dropping behind Joan García and Wojciech Szczęsny in Flick's pecking order.
A recent fitness concern was believed to complicate any potential departure for the German, but Deco maintained the captain is "healthy," while refusing to elaborate on Ter Stegen's plans.
Local rivals Girona are allegedly pursuing his signature, eager to secure consistent appearances ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The 17th-placed team would require Barcelona to subsidize a significant portion of Ter Stegen's €15 million ($17.6 million) wages, however, for such a loan arrangement to proceed.
