Following yet another painful exit on the international stage, Harry Kane has admitted he's unsure whether he'll be part of England's squad at the 2030 World Cup.
Kane and his England teammates were left heartbroken by defending champions Argentina in Wednesday's World Cup semifinal held in North America, with late strikes from Enzo Fernández and Lautaro Martínez sealing a 2–1 victory for the South Americans.
Despite repeatedly rescuing England throughout the summer with six goals in the tournament, Kane was unable to deliver when it mattered most at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. When questioned about whether this could be his last World Cup appearance after the final whistle, the 32-year-old gave a telling response.
"It's too soon to discuss that. For me, it's about taking things year by year and seeing how I feel," said the Bayern Munich striker. "The national team is my pride and joy — it's what I love doing most.
"Four years is a long time away and I'll be 33 this summer, but as you can see with Leo [Messi], he's still performing at the very top level [at 39]. I never want to place limits on these things. Right now, it's about coming to terms with another painful defeat."
England's skipper still has one more game before leaving North America, facing France in Saturday's third-place playoff at Hard Rock Stadium. Kane remains in contention for the Golden Boot, though he would need a hat-trick to catch Messi and Kylian Mbappé — both of whom have netted eight goals this summer — and hope neither finds the net in the final.
Will Thomas Tuchel Still Be England Manager at 2030 World Cup?
England boss Thomas Tuchel has faced criticism for his defensive substitutions and cautious tactical decisions after England held the lead on Wednesday, changes that swung momentum toward Argentina and effectively neutralized the Three Lions.
Tuchel has made clear he has no plans to resign following yet another agonizing England exit at a major tournament, with his existing contract running through the 2028 European Championship — set to be hosted across the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland.
Fabrizio Romano has reported that the English FA equally has no intention of parting ways with the German tactician, considering him the ideal man to guide the Three Lions on home turf at Euro 2028.
Nevertheless, whether England will keep Tuchel at the helm for the next World Cup — to be co-hosted by Spain, Portugal and Morocco — remains an open question. His performances at Euro 2028 could prove decisive in shaping his future beyond that tournament.

Kane is not the only England player who may be absent in 2030, either. At 32, John Stones looks unlikely to feature, while Dan Burn (34) and Jordan Henderson (36) will almost certainly miss out.
Players including Ollie Watkins (30), Ivan Toney (30) and Jordan Pickford (32) must also be mindful of the passing years.
