Harry Kane Heaps Praise on Barcelona Wonderkid Before Blockbuster Champions League Showdown

Harry Kane has joined the chorus of elite players praising Barcelona sensation Lamine Yamal's exceptional abilities.

The England striker found the net as Bayern Munich overcame VfB Stuttgart to claim the German Super Cup this past weekend. After the victory, Kane shared his assessment of the Barcelona forward when questioned by reporters.

"He's an outstanding talent," Kane expressed to Marca. "What he's accomplishing at such a tender age is truly remarkable. It appears he has an incredibly bright future awaiting him. We'll discover if we face Barcelona in this year's Champions League. Credit to him, he's an exceptional footballer."

Kane has experienced Yamal's prowess up close on two separate instances. In both encounters, Yamal's side came out on top. The pair shared the field when Spain triumphed over England 2–1 in the 2024 European Championship final, where the then 17-year-old Yamal provided the assist for La Roja's opening goal.

Just over three months afterward, Yamal and Barcelona demolished Bayern Munich 4–1 during the Champions League group stage. Despite Kane netting Bayern's brief equalizer, Yamal contributed another assist as the Catalan club secured their first major victory of an outstanding 2024–25 season.

Fast-forwarding nearly twelve months, Yamal and Barcelona commenced the new campaign precisely where they concluded. Barça's fresh No. 10 recorded both a goal and assist in their commanding 3–0 triumph over Mallorca to kick off their La Liga championship defense.

With the 2025–26 season now commenced throughout Europe, Kane anticipates that the traditional powerhouses remain the leading contenders for European supremacy as Champions League play approaches.

"I believe the Champions League will mirror previous years," Kane commented. "We'll [Bayern Munich] be among the contenders, along with PSG, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Man City, Liverpool. All the major clubs will be targeting that silverware."

The quest for European dominance starts with the Champions League group stage draw. All opening round fixtures will be decided then, potentially including a third installment of Kane and Yamal's personal rivalry.
