Hugo Ekitike Declares War on Anfield: "I'm Here to Win" as New Star Sets Sights on Liverpool Glory

Hugo Ekitiké marked his Anfield bow as a Liverpool footballer on Monday, featuring in the starting lineup against Athletic Club during a thrilling 3–2 triumph. Following the match, the striker reflected on this milestone moment and shared his aspirations for both the team and his personal journey as Liverpool gear up to retain their Premier League crown.
"It was incredibly enjoyable, the atmosphere was fantastic for my inaugural appearance. I feel honored and hope to feature in countless matches at this incredible venue. There are minor aspects we need to address to improve our performance. Personally, I know I could have been more effective with possession today. However, I thoroughly enjoyed playing alongside my teammates and I'm confident we'll achieve great success this campaign," the French forward commented on his first outing.
Ekitiké provided the assist for the opening strike in the second fixture of a friendly double-header versus Athletic Club. The French attacker found Mohamed Salah with a precise pass, and the Egyptian clinical finished to score. Liverpool secured victories in both encounters, netting seven goals combined.
"Our squad consists of winners who desire to claim every trophy available. We'll commit everything we have, I'm certain of that. Personally, I'll also give my absolute maximum to secure victories because winning is why I'm here."
Ekitiké joined fellow new signings Giorgi Mamardashvili, Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez in making permanent transfers to Liverpool during this transfer window. Arne Slot benefited from significant transfer backing across various positions following his successful title-winning debut campaign.
The Merseyside club maintains their pursuit of Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak. Should this transfer materialize, a summer already deemed extraordinary considering the club's historical transfer approach under Jürgen Klopp could reach even greater heights.
Liverpool have already submitted an initial official offer to Newcastle worth approximately £120 million ($158.6 million) which the Magpies promptly declined. Ekitiké, aged 23, might find his playing time impacted should the Isak transfer be completed.
Ekitiké may earn his next starting opportunity in the traditional season opener when Liverpool face Crystal Palace in the FA Community Shield on Sunday, Aug. 10.
