That said, Carrick's squad should still secure a winning start to his full-time tenure without needing to push themselves to the limit.

The arrivals of midfielders Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos have addressed one of United's weaker areas from the previous campaign, and the duo will provide support to a talented front four featuring last season's Premier League Player of the Year Bruno Fernandes. The squad is brimming with quality, even if questions linger over the backline.
