Manchester United's attempt to sign Stuttgart midfielder Angelo Stiller last summer was rejected, according to a new report.
BILD reports that United made contact with the 24-year-old near the close of the 2025 summer transfer window in an effort to lure him to Old Trafford, but Stiller turned down their advances and chose to stay with Stuttgart.
Several of Europe's biggest clubs were reportedly interested in Stiller last summer, with Real Madrid among them as they sought to fill the void left by Luka Modrić and Toni Kroos in central midfield, yet he opted to stay put.
This coming summer could see Stiller finally make his move, as he is anticipated to appear on the radar of several top clubs during a transfer window where central midfielders are among the most coveted players available.
Stiller Sent Man Utd Transfer Plea by Luke Littler
United are expected to be extremely active in the upcoming summer window. Midfield reinforcement was already a top priority before Casemiro announced he would be leaving at the end of the current campaign.
The task of finding a replacement for Casemiro — whose revival has been a key factor in United's improvement under Michael Carrick — has become an urgent concern, and celebrity supporter Luke Littler publicly named Stiller as his top choice for the role.
"Come to United, please! We need help," the two-time darts world champion said on DAZN. "Casemiro is leaving us."
Could Stiller Join Man Utd This Summer?

A significant factor behind Stiller's decision to snub United in 2025 was his reluctance to give up his guaranteed starting position at Stuttgart.
A strong 2024–25 season had placed Stiller in contention for a spot in Germany's squad for the 2026 World Cup, and he was unwilling to jeopardize his playing time at Old Trafford and put his international ambitions at risk.
That strategy may have proven counterproductive for Stiller, who has found it difficult to break into the Germany setup this season and only features in the current squad due to an injury suffered by Bayern Munich's Aleksandar Pavlović.
Nevertheless, it seems Stiller would now be open to leaving Stuttgart this summer following the World Cup, and a move to United would likely hold far greater appeal than it did last year, when the club was still finding its footing under Ruben Amorim.
Reports suggest Stiller's contract contains a release clause valued at $46 million (€40 million), though this is complicated by a provision that allows Stuttgart to void the clause by paying the player approximately $2 million.
As such, his actual transfer fee remains uncertain heading into the summer, but United are expected to have sufficient funds to pursue a deal. Laurie Whitwell of The Athletic confirmed on the Talk of the Devils podcast that two midfielders valued at $93 million (£70 million) apiece could be on their way to Old Trafford.
More affordable options like Stiller could prove vital given the hefty price tags attached to some of United's other targets. Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson is expected to command close to $130 million on his own, while Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton and Brighton & Hove Albion's Carlos Baleba are not significantly cheaper.
