Inter Miami Closes In on Blockbuster Free Agent Signing—Report

Inter Miami are putting the finishing touches on a deal to acquire free agent keeper Dayne St. Clair, according to recent reports.

Following their victory over Vancouver Whitecaps to claim their inaugural MLS Cup title, the Herons have turned their focus toward defending their championship in the upcoming campaign.

Ex-Real Madrid, Tottenham and Manchester United defender Sergio Reguilón has already joined to fill the void left by retiring Jordi Alba, while striker Luis Suárez chose to stay by signing a fresh deal rather than testing free agency.

Miami's next target, per The Athletic, is current MLS Goalkeeper of the Year St. Clair.

St. Clair, arguably the premier talent available in this year's free agent market, rejected a $1 million yearly offer to remain with Minnesota United, as reported by the Pioneer Press, and is now set to become the newest marquee addition to join Miami's ranks.

Available Designated Player Slot Provides Miami Flexibility

Currently, there's no indication of what compensation St. Clair will receive once his transfer to Miami becomes official.

The Herons still possess one remaining Designated Player position after Alba and Sergio Busquets stepped away from the game, with Rodrigo De Paul occupying one slot alongside Lionel Messi following his permanent move from Atlético Madrid.

After speculation linking them to Liverpool's Mohamed Salah following his candid media comments, Miami stepped back from pursuing the Egyptian star, with sources indicating they have different intentions for their remaining DP allocation.

The club is anticipated to utilize that position in pursuit of another world-class talent as they aim to both defend their national championship and capture the 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup.

Additionally, sources have identified Racing Club fullback Facundo Mura as another player bound for Miami when his current deal expires at month's end.
