Inter Miami Land Perfect Jordi Alba Successor in Major Signing

Inter Miami have formally confirmed the signing of Sergio Reguilón on a two-year deal to address the left-back position following Jordi Alba's decision to retire.

The iconic Spanish fullback concluded his illustrious professional journey with Miami in the MLS Cup final, completing the entire match as Lionel Messi led the Herons to their maiden domestic championship. Alba had joined Messi in Florida during summer 2023, accumulating over 100 matches for the ambitious club throughout his two-and-a-half-year stint in South Beach.

While primarily a defender, the dynamic fullback provided consistent offensive contributions, frequently linking up with Messi along the left wing. Throughout 103 matches, Alba recorded 15 goals and 33 assists for the Herons.

Reguilón faces the challenging responsibility of matching that impressive production.

The ex-Manchester United and Real Madrid left-back was initially connected to Miami in October, three months after his Tottenham Hotspur deal expired on July 1, 2025. Reguilón remained unattached until this signing announcement, which runs through December 2027 and features a 12-month extension clause. Inter Miami's new No. 3 has lofty goals for his MLS tenure.

Reguilón Reveals First 'Objective' at Inter Miami

"It's an extremely ambitious venture, a championship organization that operates correctly, and that's what drew me: arriving here to continue winning and competing," Reguilón shared with Miami's official platform following his arrival.

"My goal is to keep winning, pursue the trophies we haven't captured, and claim everything here."

Miami have already identified the Concacaf Champions Cup as their upcoming trophy objective after capturing the 2023 Leagues Cup and this season's MLS Cup during Messi's transformative period. The Herons received a direct path to the tournament's round of 16 due to their domestic champion status and will meet either Nashville SC or Atlético Ottawa when competition begins next year.

Reguilón possesses continental success experience, having won the Europa League during his loan period at Sevilla in 2019–20. The six-cap Spain international was with Real Madrid during multiple Champions League-winning seasons for the capital side but only managed four appearances in the tournament for his childhood club.
