Inter Miami announced Tuesday that manager Javier Mascherano is stepping down from his position, citing "personal reasons."
"I want to inform everyone that, for personal reasons, I have chosen to conclude my time as head coach of Inter Miami CF," Mascherano stated in the announcement.
"Above all, I would like to express my gratitude to the Club for the confidence they showed in me, every staff member who is part of the organization for their collective dedication, and especially the players, who made it possible for us to share unforgettable moments together. I also want to thank the supporters and La Familia, because none of this would have been achievable without them."
Mascherano, who was officially named to helm Lionel Messi and Inter Miami in late 2024, guided the Herons to their most triumphant campaign in 2025, claiming the MLS Cup title through his team's attacking brilliance. Inter Miami combined for 101 goals across both regular season and postseason play last year, establishing a record for the most in a single season in MLS history. The club also advanced to the knockout stage of the FIFA Club World Cup, becoming the first MLS team to accomplish the feat.
"I will always carry with me the memory of our first star, and wherever life takes me, I will continue to wish the Club nothing but the best going forward," Mascherano added. "I have no doubt that the Club will keep achieving great things in the future. I also want to thank the fans and La Familia, because none of this would have been possible without them."
Mascherano departs along with the coaching staff that joined him in South Florida. Former professional footballer Guillermo Hoyos will take over as manager for the team's upcoming fixtures.
