Inter Miami Set to Land Blockbuster Summer Star as Messi Welcomes Argentina Teammate

Inter Miami keeps building around Lionel Messi by bringing in his closest allies, with strong indications that Argentina midfielder Rodrigo De Paul is set to move to the Herons from Atlético Madrid.
According to Givemesport's Tom Bogert and Ben Jacobs, De Paul will arrive in Miami via loan arrangement, while Atlético will activate an extension option on the midfielder's deal through summer 2027 to enable the transfer.
The agreement will feature a purchase option valued at approximately $17 million (€15 million), which Miami is anticipated to activate down the line after De Paul has already committed to a four-year deal with the MLS club.
Since he's arriving on loan terms, Miami won't need to classify De Paul as a designated player. Messi, Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets currently occupy the Herons' three DP slots, though with Busquets' deal concluding this season, De Paul might assume that position when Miami exercises his buy option.
Argentina national team reporter Gastón Edul disclosed previously that De Paul won't participate in Atlético's pre-season preparations with his Miami transfer already arranged. He noted that the 2022 World Cup winner chose the Herons for both personal and professional reasons.
De Paul has been Messi's teammate with Argentina since late 2018. Together, they've claimed two Copa América titles and the 2022 World Cup. Frequently called Messi's protector with La Albiceleste, De Paul will finally unite with his compatriot at club level.
The 31-year-old midfielder featured in 187 matches under Diego Simeone following his 2021 summer arrival, netting 14 goals while providing 26 assists. Though he still has much to contribute in European football, De Paul will pursue his career in MLS.
De Paul's signing comes at an ideal moment. The Herons are climbing the MLS table thanks to spectacular Messi displays that have him approaching a remarkable achievement.
With the Leagues Cup approaching rapidly and MLS Cup Playoffs looming ahead, De Paul might become crucial to Miami's 2025 trophy ambitions.
