Inter Miami Sets Sights on Rising Star Mateo Silvetti in Blockbuster MLS Transfer Hunt

As the MLS summer transfer window nears its end, Inter Miami continues pursuing additional signings to bolster their roster in pursuit of the franchise's inaugural MLS Cup championship.
Among the targets is 19-year-old Argentine prospect Mateo Silvetti. Reports from Fabrizio Romano indicate that Miami is nearing a deal to acquire the promising talent from Newell's Old Boys.
Prior to Miami's Leagues Cup quarterfinal matchup against Tigres, Javier Mascherano confirmed the club's pursuit of defender Gonzalo Piovi while also acknowledging their search for additional offensive firepower. This is where Silvetti enters the picture.
While Silvetti typically operates as a right winger, his greatest strength throughout his brief career has been his adaptability. He has featured across multiple positions for Newell's, including both flanks and occasionally as an attacking midfielder or secondary striker.
He brings an aggressive attacking style, constantly seeking to challenge and overcome defenders in one-on-one situations. Though naturally right-footed, he demonstrates strong ability with his left foot, evidenced by two nearly identical curled strikes from the penalty area's edge on different sides of the field this season.
Silvetti's explosive acceleration and sharp directional changes create significant problems for opposing defenders. While he remains a developing talent whose decision-making will likely improve with experience, he shows clear potential to develop into a quality player.
Following his professional debut last summer, Silvetti has appeared in 37 matches for Newell's, netting six goals while contributing two assists.
Mascherano's interest in bringing Silvetti to Miami comes as no shock. In September 2024, during his tenure as Argentina U-20 head coach, Mascherano selected Silvetti for his first national team call-up, giving him the opportunity to represent the Albiceleste.
Should the young talent complete his move to MLS, he could potentially fill the right wing position, taking over from the currently underperforming Tadeo Allende. Silvetti would unite with Lionel Messi, another product of Newell's youth system, in Miami's attacking core.
