Inter Miami Shocks Soccer World with Pursuit of Ex-Real Madrid Superstar
Inter Miami are said to be in discussions to acquire former Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur defender Sergio Reguilón as a free agent.
The 28-year-old has remained clubless since his Tottenham Hotspur deal expired at the conclusion of June, though he brings international credentials having earned six caps for Spain during 2020 and 2021.
The Herons have already secured their spot in the season-concluding MLS Cup playoffs, and Fabrizio Romano indicates that Miami are engaged in discussions with Reguilón as he could instantly bolster their roster without requiring the transfer window to reopen.
Javier Mascherano aims to lead Miami to their inaugural MLS Cup championship, expanding upon the groundwork of their 2024 Supporters Shield triumph and the organization's maiden trophy, the 2023 Leagues Cup.
Reports suggest Reguilón is keen on joining Miami and is leaning toward accepting their proposal over alternative offers he's received since departing Spurs. Nevertheless, he would encounter competition for a starting role from experienced Jordi Alba, while also requiring time to regain match fitness after featuring in just four matches in 2025.
Sergio Reguilón Could Find His Permanent Home With Inter Miami

Reguilón came through Real Madrid's youth system and following merely 22 appearances and one complete campaign with the first team, he was loaned to Sevilla, where he truly emerged.
Tottenham pursued and secured the left-back during summer 2020, but following two inconsistent seasons in north London, he was loaned to Atlético Madrid for the 2022–23 campaign. That arrangement also failed to materialize and he subsequently embarked on additional loan stints at Manchester United and Brentford—both clubs remained unconvinced by his displays and permitted his return to Spurs.
A short-lived comeback resulted in Reguilón making an additional six appearances in Spurs kit, but he was released upon his contract's expiration.
Reguilón still has youth in his favor, however, and could establish himself as a worthwhile long-term solution for Miami with Alba approaching the twilight of his career.
