Leagues Cup 2025 Format Changes
The 2025 Leagues Cup has undergone significant restructuring with numerous modifications. All 18 Liga MX clubs will face 18 qualifying MLS teams. These 18 MLS sides, totaling 36 participating teams, secured entry through last season's MLS Cup Playoffs. The sole exception involves San Diego FC replacing Vancouver Whitecaps according to the league's North American cup qualification standards.
The competition consists of two phases: Phase One and elimination rounds. While MLS and Liga MX teams exclusively compete against opponents from the opposing league, domestic rivals battle within their respective standings for knockout round qualification. Eight teams, four from each division, will progress to the single-elimination bracket and face corresponding opponents.
