Casemiro is set to make his Major League Soccer debut on Saturday night, just weeks after Brazil's painful exit from the 2026 World Cup.
Inter Miami head coach Guillermo Hoyos has slotted the 34-year-old veteran straight into the starting eleven for Saturday's road fixture against CF Montréal, as the Herons chase a sixth consecutive MLS victory. Having featured in all five of Brazil's World Cup games, Casemiro required no additional preparation or personal preseason to reach match sharpness.
The decorated former Real Madrid and Manchester United central midfielder officially joined Inter Miami earlier this week on a free transfer, signing a deal through the conclusion of the 14-game 2027 MLS sprint season, with an option to extend through the end of the 2028–29 campaign.
Once he and Manchester United mutually agreed that he would not be returning to the Premier League club for the 2026–27 season, Casemiro wasted little time turning his attention to MLS. He acknowledged that Inter Miami stood out as his top choice, citing the city's appeal and the opportunity to line up alongside Lionel Messi and the defending MLS Cup champions.
However, he will need to wait until sometime in August before sharing the field with Messi and Rodrigo De Paul, as the Argentine duo have gone on holiday following their World Cup final defeat last week and are expected to miss several Miami fixtures as well as the 2026 MLS All-Star game.
