Jack Grealish Seals Premier League Loan Move Away From Man City in Career-Defining Transfer

Jack Grealish has concluded his period away from Manchester City's first team, at least for now, after securing a season-long loan move to Everton.
The 29-year-old England winger found himself considered excess to requirements by Pep Guardiola following the 2024–25 domestic season and was excluded from the Club World Cup squad. City were understood to be willing to entertain offers as modest as £40 million ($54.1 million) for their record £100 million signing, but no buyers emerged.
Everton eventually expressed their desire to sign the player and have successfully acquired the former Aston Villa star for the 2025–26 season. Sources indicate the loan arrangement contains a purchase option valued at an optimistic £50 million.
"I'm absolutely delighted to have joined Everton," Grealish expressed to the club's official media upon completing his move. "This means everything to me, truly. This is an incredible club, with incredible supporters.
"From the moment I had discussions with the manager, I was certain there was nowhere else I wanted to be. Through social media, I've received countless messages from Everton fans, which played a part in my decision as well and represents another factor in why I selected Everton.
"I want to express my gratitude to the supporters for all the messages I've received so far. Thank you for all the warmth and backing. I hope I can reward you now and I'm confident I will."
Grealish will don the No. 18 jersey at Everton. City's former number 10 acknowledged a legendary Manchester United figure as inspiration behind this choice. "There were alternative options but my two most admired English players of all time are Wayne Rooney and Paul Gascoigne and I'm aware they both wore number 18 at this club," the Birmingham-native attacker explained.
"So, once I realized this transfer was progressing, I checked and number 18 was available, which was ideal for me and became the only number I would consider from that moment.
"I had a conversation with Wayne [Rooney] prior to joining," Grealish continued, "and I brought up the number 18 topic with him—so I trust he's pleased too!"
