Ex-Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho has received a contract offer from Getafe worth a mere 4% of his former salary, according to a new report.
When United acquired Sancho from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2021 for approximately $100 million (£73 million), they provided him with a weekly wage of £250,000 ($334,000), which he retained right up until his release this past summer.
Sancho endured a torrid time in the Premier League, failing to impress even during loan stints at both Chelsea and Aston Villa, before United chose not to activate an extension clause in his deal and let the 26-year-old leave on a free transfer.
Spanish club Getafe put forward an offer to Sancho earlier this month which, as reported by The Telegraph, is on a completely different financial scale compared to what he had grown accustomed to in England.
Getafe's proposal to Sancho amounts to an annual salary of just €400,000 ($448,000)—less than he would have earned over two weeks under his previous United deal—on a contract lasting through the end of the current season.
Sancho has not dismissed the offer and remains open to the prospect of playing in La Liga. He is anticipated to sit down with club officials in the near future to formally evaluate the proposal.
A Spell Out the Spotlight Would Do Wonders for Sancho

Sancho has been a recognizable name in football for nearly a decade now.
His bold decision to leave Manchester City's academy for Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2017 attracted significant attention, and his instant impact at senior level quickly generated headlines. In 2018–19, he was involved in 30 Bundesliga goals and raised that tally to 34 the following campaign, by which point Europe's top clubs were all eager to spend big on him.
United's success in securing his signature was widely celebrated at the time, with Sancho tipped to be a game-changing addition. The immense pressure that followed, amplified by the enormous transfer fee, has kept Sancho firmly in the public eye ever since.
Sadly for Sancho, very little has gone according to plan on the pitch over the past five years, with his every action subjected to relentless scrutiny.
A switch to Spain would offer Sancho a much-needed opportunity to start afresh, and Getafe are far from the kind of club that attracts widespread global attention. They would instead offer a far quieter environment than anything Sancho has previously experienced.
That could allow Sancho to attempt to rebuild his career away from the glare of the media. While recapturing the heights of his Dortmund peak may be beyond him, the winger's immediate goal will simply be halting the sharp decline his career has been experiencing.
