Jordan Henderson Makes Stunning Premier League Comeback After Liverpool Exit

Brentford have officially announced the signing of Jordan Henderson as a free agent following his departure from Ajax.

The ex-Liverpool skipper has experienced a winding journey since his exit from Merseyside during summer 2023. Henderson spent merely half a year in Saudi Arabia playing under Steven Gerrard at Al Ettifaq before pushing for a transfer to Ajax.

Multiple sources suggested that the England midfielder was becoming restless once more in January, with speculation linking him to Monaco gaining momentum. However, Henderson stayed in Amsterdam, captaining Ajax as they threw away a commanding nine-point advantage at the top of the Eredivisie table.

Henderson became available without a transfer fee this summer and Brentford have seized the opportunity, offering him a two-year deal. "Once we learned of Jordan's availability, the decision was straightforward," head coach Keith Andrews stated to the club's official website.

"We conducted thorough research on his recent performances to assess his current condition: he remains exceptionally fit and exceptionally driven to accomplish goals in football, despite already achieving considerable success.

"Given the departure of seasoned players from our squad—Christian Nørgaard, Mark Flekken and Ben Mee—replacing that experience was crucial.

"Our roster is relatively youthful overall, and we have significant club experience, which is vital, through players like Vitaly Janelt, Mathias Jensen, Ethan Pinnock and Josh Dasilva, who remains with the club undergoing rehabilitation.

"However, what Jordan contributes is that he has been among the most impactful leaders in recent Premier League history. He has been instrumental in pursuing championships and Champions League success at an exceptional football institution.

"He possesses international experience with England and, alongside that, brings a standard of experience, professionalism and commitment to his craft - exactly the approach we aspire to embody as a football club.

"He will elevate our standards and prove to be an excellent addition to the team."

The 35-year-old remains a regular selection for the England national squad, featuring in both of Thomas Tuchel's lineups this year, with maintaining his position in the Three Lions team understood to be his primary objective.
