Jordan Henderson Shatters Forearm in Shocking Freak Accident

Jordan Henderson's father has disclosed that his son "completely shattered" his left forearm following a freak accident during the celebrations after England's 3–2 victory against Mexico.

The 36-year-old midfielder didn't feature for a single minute in his nation's thrilling World Cup round of 16 triumph at the Azteca, yet ended up needing a stretcher and oxygen after taking a tumble during the post-match festivities.

Henderson had joined his teammates in singing the Oasis classic 'Wonderwall' in front of supporters behind one of the goals, only to suffer a serious fall while climbing back over the advertising hoardings.

He was rushed to a hospital in Mexico City while his teammates made their way back to their base in Kansas City. His father, Brian Henderson, has since provided an update on his son's condition.

"It's his left forearm - he's just completely smashed it," Brian told Mail Online, adding: "He's going to have a cast on and then it depends on what the experts say."

Henderson's father also confirmed that his son, widely regarded as a key figure in the Three Lions dressing room, will not be heading home just yet and plans to remain with the squad for the remainder of the World Cup.

Henderson Set for Surgery

Henderson had originally been scheduled to fly back to Kansas City on Monday, but his return was pushed back due to poor weather conditions, meaning he will now travel on Wednesday ahead of an operation. A surgeon with a track record of treating NFL athletes has reportedly been lined up for the procedure.

Watching the incident from back in England, Brian described his reaction as he witnessed his son being stretchered off the pitch in Mexico.

"At first I just thought he'd fallen," he said. "I thought he'd maybe scraped his wrist. I had no idea it was that serious until they were interviewing Harry Kane and a trolley came past with Jordan on it. I could see him on there with oxygen and things.

"Straight away, I messaged his PA, who was over there, to try and find out what had happened. I was up all night waiting to hear the news. It's just a waiting game now."

Henderson 'Proud' Despite Injury

Despite suffering a tournament-ending injury, Henderson shared an optimistic message on social media on Tuesday.

"A night to remember that's for sure! What an incredible performance against all the different challenges," Henderson wrote. "So proud to be a part of this special team. Thanks for all the support, another big one Saturday."

Before sustaining the injury, Henderson's sole on-field contribution to the World Cup had been a brief six-minute substitute appearance in the victory over Panama.
