Jurgen Klopp Ignites MLS Buzz Before Epic Hudson River Derby Showdown
The New York Red Bulls are seeking every possible edge in their battle for the last 2025 MLS Cup Playoff berth, so a training session visit from ex-Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp will certainly provide a boost before a crucial Hudson River Derby matchup with New York City FC.
In his capacity as Red Bull's Head of Global Soccer, Klopp has been making rounds to various Red Bull Football Group clubs worldwide since assuming the position in January, and has now joined the MLS team before one of their most significant matches of the campaign.
Going into the weekend fixtures, the Red Bulls hold 43 points, sitting two points behind Chicago Fire FC for the Eastern Conference's final playoff position. With Chicago having an extra game to play, a derby defeat would deal a crushing blow to any chances of continuing the club's postseason run to an unprecedented 16 consecutive seasons.
The former Liverpool tactician and Champions League victor assisted with training sessions alongside Red Bulls head coach and compatriot Sandro Schwarz, while interacting with multiple players during and after practice.

Though Klopp's position doesn't involve daily management of any single club, his supervision ensures each team, including during his earlier visits to RB Leipzig and Red Bull Bragantino, maintains alignment from a sporting standpoint.
After concluding his Liverpool tenure, Klopp took a break before accepting the supervisory position with Red Bull, stating at that time he doesn't envision returning to another coaching role down the road.
"I didn't want to interfere with anyone's work. I have affection for all my previous clubs, but I couldn't figure out how to make everyone satisfied," he explained to former Real Madrid and Germany midfielder Toni Kroos on the Einfach mal Luppen podcast, "I'm 57 and have several more working years ahead, but I couldn't picture myself on the touchline right now. It was obvious I would pursue something—then Red Bull presented itself."
Klopp is anticipated to attend the Hudson River Derby encounter at Sports Illustrated Stadium on Saturday.
