Bayern Munich forward Harry Kane made history on Friday, becoming the quickest player ever to reach 100 Bundesliga goals, before responding to Lamine Yamal's remarks implying he is undeserving of the Ballon d'Or.
Yamal has been vocal about his belief that he is the rightful winner of this year's Ballon d'Or. The Barcelona prodigy is undoubtedly among the frontrunners and appeared to take a subtle swipe at Kane by suggesting the award should not go to "a player who has scored 80 goals."
Kane was never directly named, having finished the 2025–26 season with 73 goals across club and international duty, and the English striker made clear he had no desire to get drawn into a public dispute over the Ballon d'Or.
"I'm not sure what he meant by it," Kane said regarding Yamal's comments. "Yamal is a fantastic player. He had an outstanding season, as did plenty of others. [Kylian] Mbappé, Michael [Olise], Rodri ... there are a lot of contenders."
He continued: "Everyone is free to express themselves however they choose. People are different. That's not for me to decide. I'll carry on doing what I do on the pitch, and we'll see what unfolds."
Kane's Latest Bundesliga Accolade

"Doing what I do" is precisely what Kane has delivered. He bagged a brace in Friday's emphatic 7–0 thrashing of Union Berlin to register his 100th and 101st Bundesliga goals, reaching the milestone in just 98 league appearances.
It comes as no surprise that no one has ever hit 100 Bundesliga goals more swiftly than Kane, who shattered Dieter Müller's long-standing record of 129 games, a mark that had held since 1977.
"I'm incredibly proud to have now reached 100 and 101 Bundesliga goals," Kane reflected following the game. "I haven't been here all that long. I've cherished every moment of it. With Michael, Lucho [Luis Díaz] and Jamal [Musiala] I naturally get opportunities and today was no different.
"So I just want to thank the team, the club, the manager and the staff, everyone who has played a part in helping me get here. Let's keep this going. Continuing to score in matches is clearly a huge step.
"There have obviously been a lot of important goals along the way. All I can say is that I'm savoring every single moment. Just like I did today."
Yamal may be reluctant to see the Ballon d'Or handed to a natural goalscorer like Kane, but with record-shattering statistics like these, it will be difficult for anyone to make a case against the England captain.
