Kobbie Mainoo Breaks Silence on Ruben Amorim's Shocking Man Utd Departure
Kobbie Mainoo is "in a positive mindset" as he gears up for what might be his inaugural start since Ruben Amorim's departure from Manchester United, according to caretaker manager Darren Fletcher.
Beyond his controversial tactical setup, no other topic dominated Amorim's unsuccessful spell as United boss quite like his handling of Mainoo. The 20-year-old midfielder, celebrated as one of the club's finest youth products in recent memory, hasn't featured in a Premier League starting XI this campaign and accumulated just 16 total appearances under the former Portuguese coach.
Mainoo's situation became so dire that he sought a loan move during the summer transfer window and was reportedly eager for a temporary departure this January, though Amorim maintained he should stay as crucial cover for Bruno Fernandes.
With a new chapter now approaching, Mainoo is believed to be optimistic about his prospects.
"He appears to be in a positive frame of mind," Fletcher noted. "Kobbie isn't very expressive, so it's difficult to gauge his mood either way. That's just his personality.
"However, I've worked with him extensively and known him for years. I've observed him throughout this campaign and had regular discussions with him, and he's definitely in a good headspace.
"I understand Kobbie's character and he's familiar with me and [interim first-team coach] Travis Binnion, so he feels at ease in his surroundings, he's mentally prepared, and his training has been excellent."
Mainoo Eyeing Uncommon Man Utd Starting Opportunity

Mainoo's prospects at Old Trafford will be among the primary concerns for United's temporary boss.
Ex-players Ole Gunnar Solskjær, Michael Carrick and Ruud van Nistelrooy are all reportedly being evaluated for a position that would provide United breathing room while searching for Amorim's permanent successor.
Fletcher will oversee Sunday's FA Cup third-round clash with Brighton & Hove Albion, which might offer Mainoo only his second starting appearance this term following the memorable Carabao Cup loss to Grimsby Town.
"I believe we've enjoyed strong performances in this tournament recently—claimed the trophy two years back, reached another final," Fletcher added. "It's a fantastic competition. It was my first piece of silverware as a player. It holds special significance.
"Given our current campaign—absent from Europe, eliminated from the League Cup, struggling in the Premier League—the FA Cup represents a prize we should be competing for and maximizing our chances to secure."
