Kylian Mbappe Defies Jose Mourinho By Dropping Bombshell Injury Revelation

Kylian Mbappé shared a social media post hinting at encouraging progress in his recovery from a knee injury, uploading a video of himself riding a bicycle — just under two weeks after Real Madrid boss José Mourinho stressed that professional footballers should avoid cycling altogether.

"You are a football player 24 hours a day," Mourinho told the Bet it Drives Show toward the end of September. "Everything reflects the job. What you eat, what you drink, how you sleep, even things in your private life.

"You cannot ski. You cannot ride a bike. You fall off your bike, and you don't play three matches maybe, or maybe worse, maybe you break a leg ... There are a lot of things you have to give up to be a football player. If you feel it's a hobby, you're dead.

"There's always a relationship between what you achieve and what you give up."

That message apparently went unheeded by Mbappé, who took to Instagram on Sunday to share a clip of himself cycling one-handed while using his free hand to record the footage.

What Does This Mean for Mbappé's Injury?

Mbappé was notably active on social media over the weekend. Shortly before the cycling clip appeared, the French star also posted a video of himself running on a treadmill.

Both activities place considerable strain on the knees, suggesting the injury Mbappé sustained while on international duty with France may already be on the mend — though there remains a significant gap between light exercise and being fully cleared for training and competitive action.

Madrid return to action on Oct. 10, when Villarreal travel to the Bernabéu. That fixture falls just 15 days after Mbappé picked up the injury, and despite his treadmill sessions, his availability for that game remains uncertain.

A Champions League away fixture at Roma follows four days later, and that could prove a more realistic target for Mbappé's comeback, with the forward likely keeping a close eye on the schedule ahead.

October also features home clashes against Sevilla and RB Leipzig, but it is El Clásico against Barcelona on Oct. 25 that will be firmly marked on everyone's radar.

Madrid are expected to take a cautious approach with Mbappé's return, especially given the knee troubles that plagued him last season. The French attacker spent time in and out of the treatment room between December and March, sitting out a total of seven matches during that spell.

His current absence is not anticipated to be as prolonged, and his participation in El Clásico is not considered at risk. The priority will be ensuring Mbappé arrives at that pivotal fixture in top physical condition.
