Another match, another milestone narrowly missed for Kylian Mbappé. The French forward played a pivotal role in Real Madrid's Champions League comeback victory against AEK Athens on Wednesday, finding the net in the 3–2 triumph.
Madrid were forced to fight back twice at the ALLWYN Arena, with the Greek champions proving to be unexpectedly stubborn opponents.
Aboubakary Koïta stunned the visitors by putting the hosts in front, before Jude Bellingham restored parity ahead of the interval. AEK regained the lead after the break, with Stavros Pilios converting after a blistering counter-attack.
Mbappé drew level shortly afterwards with his 16th goal of the campaign, and Federico Valverde struck from distance in stoppage time to seal yet another thrilling European victory.
The result keeps Madrid's Champions League record flawless, with four wins from four games, as Los Blancos occupy second place in the league standings.
Mbappé the Centurion

The evening was defined by yet another Madrid fightback in Europe, but tucked within the high-octane drama was another significant Mbappé landmark.
The French star has now netted in six consecutive Champions League appearances, matching his longest-ever scoring run in the tournament. His 78th-minute strike on Wednesday also marked his 100th goal contribution in the Champions League (74 goals, 26 assists). Impressively, Mbappé's century has come in just 102 appearances.
Even more strikingly, Mbappé is not the quickest player to reach 100 goal contributions. That distinction belongs (predictably) to Lionel Messi who, according to Opta, achieved the milestone in just 101 Champions League appearances.
Sharing second place with Mbappé is Robert Lewandowski, who also hit his century in 102 matches.
Mbappé Gunning for Glory

Only Barcelona's Raphinha (19) has outscored Mbappé across Europe's top leagues so far this season, and the Real Madrid forward has clearly embarked on the 2026–27 campaign with a point to prove.
Claiming the top scorer award across three competitions—La Liga, the Champions League and the World Cup—was not sufficient to earn the 27-year-old the 2026 Ballon d'Or, but he appears determined to go one better next year.
If he maintains his current scoring pace, Mbappé could become the first player since Messi to claim three consecutive Pichichi trophies, while a further Champions League top scorer award would place him in a select group of just five players who have led the competition's scoring charts on three or more occasions—Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi, Gerd Müller, Jean-Pierre Papin and Ruud Van Nistelrooy.
Most crucially for Mbappé this season, however, the focus is on team silverware. The Frenchman has yet to lift a major trophy since his move from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2024—a fact that has hampered his pursuit of individual accolades and somewhat defined his time in the Spanish capital.
After an inconsistent start to the campaign, Los Blancos' Mbappé-inspired Clásico victory has thrust them firmly back into the domestic title race, with José Mourinho's side now just three points behind La Liga leaders Barcelona.
Wednesday's Champions League win, meanwhile, places Madrid in an excellent position to advance to the knockout stages without requiring a playoff round berth.
With so much still at stake, a in-form Mbappé will be hoping this proves to be a defining chapter in his career.
