Spain's National Sports Council (CSD) has filed a complaint against La Liga president Javier Tebas following his comparison of Real Madrid's communication methods to those used by Nazi Germany.
Real Madrid demanded Tebas step down immediately after he took to social media to liken the club and their in-house TV channel's "propaganda techniques" to those of Nazi propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels. Rather than walking back his remarks and offering an apology, Tebas doubled down on his statements in the days that followed.
The CSD launched an investigation and, on Thursday, took independent action by submitting a complaint against Tebas to Spain's Sports Administrative Tribunal (TAD), with the filing signed by Spain's secretary of sport José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes.
The CSD issued a statement outlining its request for TAD to assess whether Tebas's remarks constitute a serious violation of article 76.4.b of Spain's sports law, which classifies "notorious and public acts against sporting dignity or decorum" as grave infractions.
TAD must now determine whether the CSD's complaint carries sufficient weight to initiate an investigation that could result in significant penalties for Tebas. The timeline for this process remains unclear.
The Sanctions Tebas Could Face for Real Madrid Nazi Comparison

Should TAD choose to act on the CSD's complaint and find Tebas guilty, the La Liga president could face serious consequences.
AS reports that under Spain's sports law, Tebas could be subject to one of three possible penalties.
The mildest outcome would be a formal public warning. Alternatively, Tebas could be handed a fine of no more than €3,000 ($3,360). In the most severe scenario, if TAD considers the infraction grave enough, he could be barred from his position for anywhere between one month and two years.
Previously, TAD ruled against former Spain Football Federation president Luis Rubiales, handing him a three-year suspension for breaching the same article Tebas is now accused of violating. Rubiales had already stepped down before TAD's decision, amid the fierce backlash that followed his unsolicited kiss of Spain women's national team player Jennifer Hermoso after La Roja's 2023 World Cup triumph.
Since Tebas assumed the La Liga presidency in 2013, the CSD has launched more than 20 investigations against him, with this being the fifth to reach TAD, according to AS. Of those five cases, the only penalty Tebas has received to date is a public warning.
'Enforce It'—Tebas Responds to CSD Complaint

Just as he did when the CSD first launched its investigation, Tebas has again turned to social media to address the complaint filed with TAD, once more calling for measures to be taken against Real Madrid.
"One more," Tebas wrote. "Another request from CSD to TAD and, once again, headlines about my possible disqualification. The reasons change, but the insistence is the same. We expected it: any excuse was going to work.
"But there's a silence that especially catches the attention. We haven't heard the state's secretary of sport nor any other CSD higher up say a single word of complaint against the accusations made by Real Madrid and their television channel."
Tebas continues to push for action against Real Madrid after the club's own broadcast channel branded La Liga a rigged competition and accused him of corruption. He also reiterated that his intention was never to suggest that Real Madrid or their supporters subscribe to Nazi ideology, but rather that he was drawing a parallel between their communication tactics and those of the Nazi propaganda machine.
"Defending the competition also requires responding to those who constantly discredit it," Tebas added. "It's part of my responsibility, and I will continue to enforce it."
