La Liga President Fires Back at Real Madrid with Explosive Warning: 'Be Very Careful'
La Liga chief Javier Tebas has cautioned that Real Madrid's planned dossier on Spanish officiating standards will harm the league following another disputed decision.
Madrid have made no secret of their frustration with various decisions from match officials and VAR personnel throughout recent seasons, though their criticism has become increasingly pointed recently.
Last season's reports even suggested the Madrid club was contemplating withdrawing from La Liga completely due to substandard refereeing. While that extreme scenario never materialized, Madrid have assembled a comprehensive file documenting officiating errors from this campaign and the previous one to submit to FIFA, football's global governing authority.
This dramatic step was triggered by Dean Huijsen's dismissal on Saturday which many considered excessive—the Madrid defender clearly halted a threatening Real Sociedad counter-attack, but Xabi Alonso contended that Éder Militão's nearby position meant Huijsen wasn't the final defender or preventing an obvious scoring chance.

Tebas declined to comment specifically on the controversial incident. Rather, the league administrator focused on Madrid's compiled documentation. "Since they mentioned it encompasses all Spanish officiating, it should include every team..." he stated to reporters at a La Liga-Panini partnership event.
"If it exclusively features Madrid and Barcelona, it becomes a prejudiced document," he cautioned. "We possess Opta statistics regarding dismissals for every club, penalty decisions... I haven't observed any analysis of Real Madrid's penalty awards. It's interesting... Make it a comprehensive assessment. Allow everyone to form their own judgments. One must be extremely cautious with statements because they harm the competition."
The La Liga president suggested a possible solution, referencing the framework employed in Spain's second tier where coaches receive two VAR challenges each game.
"I hold my perspective as a supporter," Tebas reflected. "We should progress toward the FVS [Football Video Support] approach used in Primera RFEF. Managers should initiate reviews. Not a VAR control room. We haven't utilized this long; it's a worldwide trial being evaluated. It would minimize disputes. It receives little discussion, but deserves consideration. I'd appreciate people examining whether this framework could work in elite competitions."
