LAFC Manager Eyes Dream Signing of Bundesliga Superstar: "Perfect For Us"

Steve Cherundolo, the head coach of Los Angeles FC, has expressed his keen interest in acquiring Bayern Munich legend Thomas Müller following the player's anticipated departure from the Bavarian giants this summer.
The veteran midfielder has remained loyal to Bayern throughout his professional journey, having emerged from their youth system and dedicated 17 seasons to the first team. Nevertheless, the celebrated playmaker is set to leave as a free agent prior to the start of the 2025–26 season.
The 35-year-old is currently participating with the Bavarian club in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup—contributing two goals in Bayern's dominant 10–0 victory against Auckland City—but will conclude his tenure following the competition, with his future club still undetermined.
Müller has been heavily rumored to join Major League Soccer, particularly with recent speculation linking him to FC Cincinnati, though LAFC's Cherundolo, who plans to step away from his managerial role after the 2025 campaign, has publicly encouraged the German star to consider the Black and Gold.

"Naturally, I would be delighted if he joined us," the 46-year-old manager shared with BILD. "Thomas would be an ideal addition given his character, vast experience, exceptional quality, and winning mindset.
"Those who believe Los Angeles is merely about pleasant climate and entertainment are gravely mistaken. Our objective is championship success. And Müller possesses that championship DNA.
"Thomas reads the game better than anyone else. That role operating behind the forward is perfect for him—and would benefit our system tremendously, providing us with invaluable assistance. However, we'll address this matter when the appropriate time arrives."
LAFC faces intense competition from Cincinnati in pursuing Müller's services, particularly after the German experienced the atmosphere at Cincinnati's TQL Stadium during Bayern's Club World Cup opening match. He offered glowing remarks about the fans and facilities following the contest.
"The atmosphere throughout the venue and the supporters' energy was truly impressive," the Raumdeuter commented in his post-game remarks. "I must acknowledge, they possess excellent facilities here."
