Lamine Yamal Boldly Declares 'My Time Is Coming' in Fierce Ballon d'Or Battle Cry

Lamine Yamal has refused to allow Monday's Ballon d'Or disappointment to shake his self-belief, declaring that his "time will come" to claim football's most prestigious individual accolade.

The Barcelona sensation was among three top contenders for the award in one of the most competitive races in recent years, but ultimately finished third behind Kylian Mbappé and first-time recipient Harry Kane.

Yamal didn't walk away from the ceremony empty-handed, securing his third consecutive Kopa Trophy in London, but the 19-year-old must wait a little longer for the sport's most celebrated prize.

Following the career setback, Yamal has since addressed his Ballon d'Or snub via Instagram.

"IT WILL COME," the teenager wrote in capital letters. "Good things take time, I trust the path I'm building. Without a hurry, with excitement and with tranquility that someday my time will come.

"Congratulations to the winners, my focus is again on what's important, to make FC Barcelona win again."

Yamal would have become the youngest recipient in Ballon d'Or history, a record currently held by former Barcelona and Brazil forward Ronaldo, and that milestone remains within reach should he claim the 2027 award.

After two near misses—Yamal placed second in 2025—there is nothing standing in the way of him claiming the Ballon d'Or next year.

Yamal's Receives Passionate Support From Family

While Yamal displayed grace in defeat amid yet another Ballon d'Or heartbreak, the player's uncle, Abdul, was furious as he lashed out at the decision to hand Kane the trophy.

"My nephew was superb. He is the best player in the world, everyone knows that," Yamal's uncle told Cadena SER. "If you are a football fan, you must watch Lamine, not Harry Kane.

"The Englishman is a talented striker, yes, but my nephew is the best player because of his dazzling brilliance on the pitch. He is the one who makes the difference.

"He did not win because Lamine is young, he is 19 years old, and he will win more. But Harry has only a few years left on the pitch, and we gave him the award.

"He won the World Cup, La Liga and the Super Cup. He plays wonderfully, he had an amazing season, he scores goals no one else can score, passes, assists, everything."

While Yamal undeniably had a stellar 2025–26 campaign for club and country, no impartial observer can begrudge Kane the honor following a season in which he netted a remarkable 61 goals in 51 appearances for Bayern and claimed the domestic treble.

He also guided England to its deepest run at the World Cup since lifting the trophy in 1966, scoring six times in just seven appearances at the tournament.

Yamal is currently the early favorite for the 2027 Ballon d'Or according to the betting markets, and has already gotten off to a flying start this season with 20 goal contributions in just 13 appearances for Barça.
