Lamine Yamal continued his record-breaking form with a brace and an assist in a stunning performance as Spain claimed a commanding 4–1 win over Croatia in the UEFA Nations League on Tuesday.
The 17-year-old Ballon d'Or hopeful opened the scoring from outside the box within just 70 seconds at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán, as the home side asserted their dominance from the very first whistle.
Yamal then delivered a precise cross for Marc Pubill's headed goal around the 30-minute mark, putting Spain back in front after Croatia had levelled against the flow of the game. The Barcelona sensation's crowning moment arrived in the second half, though. Collecting the ball wide inside the penalty area, Yamal cut infield and drilled a powerful finish past club colleague Dominik Livaković from a tight angle.
Nico Williams wrapped up the emphatic victory with a fourth goal late in the game, keeping Spain at the summit of Group C.
Yamal ended the evening with two goals from only two attempts (carrying an xG of just 0.26), while also contributing an assist from a single key chance created.
When asked about his clever finish against Barça teammate Livaković, he told Spanish television: "I know him from training. I thought about what he tends to do there and, fortunately, it found the net."

No stranger to breaking records, Yamal reached yet another landmark on Tuesday evening, becoming the youngest player in the history of the Spanish national side to score twice and provide an assist in a single game.
As highlighted by MisterChip on X, Yamal (19 years and 28 days) beats the previous record holder—and Real Madrid icon—Raúl by more than two years.
"Today we got to enjoy his brilliance once again, but he channels that brilliance in service of the team," Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente said following the victory. "That speaks volumes about the player. In the years ahead, he will be even more celebrated for what he contributes to the team.
"Lamine wants to prove to the world what he's capable of. We're thrilled with him. His attitude is incredibly humble, and that makes him even greater. We're fortunate to have him. He's very popular within the squad."
Spain Reach 40 Unbeaten
The result was not only a personal milestone for Yamal, but a landmark moment for the entire Spanish squad, who have now gone 40 consecutive matches without defeat—a feat no national team has ever accomplished before.
Throughout this remarkable run, Spain have claimed both the UEFA Euro 2024 title and the 2026 World Cup trophy.
Alongside their 40-game unbeaten record, Spain have also won nine straight matches across all competitions—matching their best-ever winning streak under De la Fuente.
A number of Spain's key players have yet to experience defeat in a Spain shirt, but none boast a more remarkable record than Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Fabián Ruiz, who now holds the record for the most international appearances without ever suffering a loss. The 30-year-old has featured in 52 games for La Roja, recording 37 victories and 15 draws.
