Robert Lewandowski has humorously suggested that his hunger for trophies was the main reason he never ended up signing for Arsenal throughout his remarkable career.
The 38-year-old made his way to Major League Soccer last summer, joining Chicago Fire and drawing the curtain on a stunning chapter at Europe's elite level with Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich and, most recently, Barcelona. He netted 567 goals across the three European clubs, though his career path could have looked very different.
Lewandowski was frequently touted as a potential Arsenal signing over the years, with the Polish striker disclosing that the club's former shot-stopper and his national team colleague Wojciech Szczęsny had attempted to persuade him to make the move to north London.
"I can confirm that Wojciech tried to convince me to join Arsenal," Lewandowski disclosed in 2014. "We had several conversations about it. He did most of the talking — about what the club is like from the inside, and what Arsène Wenger thought of me."
