Liga MX Stars Shine Bright as 2025 Ballon d'Or Winners Are Revealed

Liga MX conducted their yearly Ballon d'Or ceremony on Sunday evening, just hours following several award recipients' participation in Mexico's triumphant Gold Cup campaign.

This celebration honors the finest performers in Mexico's premier division throughout the previous year, covering the span of the most recent two Liga MX campaigns.

Current titleholders Toluca dominated the awards ceremony with three recipients. Cruz Azul secured recognition for two of their players, while Club América, despite capturing their third consecutive championship in the Apertura 2025 season, walked away with only a single accolade.

The honorees were determined through a dual voting system combining supporter ballots and decisions from a panel consisting of all 18 Liga MX team managers and captains.

Below is a comprehensive overview of every award recipient from Liga MX's 2025 Ballon d'Or ceremony.

Liga MX Ballon d'Or 2025: Complete Winners List

Outstanding Player: Paulinho - Toluca

Toluca's Paulinho claimed the evening's most coveted prize, earning the Liga MX Ballon d'Or as the league's premier player over the past year.

The Portuguese forward joined Liga MX from Sporting CP and immediately terrorized defensive lines throughout Mexico. He netted 25 goals across the previous two campaigns, claiming the golden boot on two occasions. His contributions enabled Toluca to break a 15-year championship drought last May.

Along with capturing the top striker honor, Paulinho secured two of the ceremony's most distinguished awards.

Outstanding Goalkeeper: Kevin Mier - Cruz Azul

Kevin Mier has delivered exceptional performances for Cruz Azul since arriving at the beginning of 2024. While he excels as a shot-stopper, his ball-handling skills are equally impressive, often functioning like an additional field player during Cruz Azul's possession phases.

The 25-year-old Colombian international may not remain in Liga MX much longer if his excellent form persists.

Outstanding Center Back: Willer Ditta - Cruz Azul

Similar to his fellow Colombian Mier, Willer Ditta anchored Cruz Azul's defensive core throughout their campaigns. Ditta brings physicality and has emerged as a leader within the Concacaf Champions Cup winners.

Following an uncertain beginning in Liga MX, Ditta has elevated his performance and now represents Colombia's national squad.

Outstanding Fullback: Jesús Gallardo - Toluca

Jesús Gallardo has maintained exceptional consistency in Mexican football over the last ten years. The Toluca left-back excels at both defensive and offensive duties, making him indispensable in Antonio Mohamed's championship-winning squad.

Gallardo complemented his outstanding season with impressive displays for El Tri during their Gold Cup victory.

Outstanding Defensive Midfielder: Agustín Palavecino - Necaxa

Necaxa provided an unexpected delight during Clausura 2025, with midfielder Agustín Palavecino serving as a key factor in Los Rayos nearly reaching the semifinals.

The ex-River Plate player serves as a genuine midfield foundation while possessing versatility across central positions. His performance level impressed Pachuca enough to pursue his signing for their 2025 Club World Cup participation.

Outstanding Attacking Midfielder: Alexis Vega - Toluca

Alexis Vega has been outstanding since 2025 began. Vega contributed 13 goals and provided 11 assists across 23 matches during Toluca's Clausura 2025 championship campaign. Mexico's number 10 also received recognition for his spectacular individual goal against Pachuca, earning the year's best goal award.

Following a challenging period with Chivas, Vega's return to Toluca immediately showcased why he ranks among Mexico's premier talents.

Outstanding Manager: André Jardine - Club América

The mastermind behind América's three consecutive titles. André Jardine's squad solidified their dominance with their Apertura 2024 championship. The Brazilian tactician has demonstrated exceptional strategic planning in elimination matches, with Las Águilas reaching the Liga MX final in all four seasons under his leadership.

Newcomer of the Year: Hugo Camberos - Chivas

It proved to be a disappointing year for one of Mexico's most prominent clubs: Chivas. However, the standout positive was the emergence of 18-year-old winger Hugo Camberos. The youth academy product displays excellent playmaking abilities on the flank and has impressed with El Tri's junior teams. Definitely a prospect to monitor going forward.

Liga MX Ballon d'Or 2025: Liga MX Femenil

Awards were also presented to exceptional performers in Liga MX Femenil—Mexico's women's football premier league.

Pachuca claimed the Clausura 2025 title and swept all four evening awards.
