Lionel Messi Fires Back at MLS: "You Blocked Me from All-Star Competition"

Lionel Messi has confessed to experiencing fitness challenges following his comeback from suspension while expressing frustration with Major League Soccer for "preventing him from playing".
Both Messi and his Inter Miami colleague Jordi Alba received one-match bans for missing the All-Star Game, an official MLS regulation that has sparked widespread anger recently, and sources revealed he was extremely frustrated immediately following the decision.
Following his absence during a 0–0 stalemate against FC Cincinnati, Messi made his comeback with two assists in a 2–1 Leagues Cup victory over Atlas, orchestrating Marcelo Weigandt's 96th-minute game-winner after facilitating an earlier goal from Telasco Segovia.
"Honestly, it was challenging with the temperature, and not having participated the previous match," Messi commented post-game. "Although [the break] might appear beneficial, for me it's detrimental because I require competition."

"My physical condition improves the more games I participate in and establish my rhythm. The previous day they prevented me from competing, and I experienced it during the opening half, but what matters is that we secured the victory."
The disputed suspension has further fueled rumors regarding Messi's future prospects in Miami. The Argentine icon remains contracted through 2025's conclusion and Miami executives remain optimistic about securing an extension.
Nevertheless, there have been numerous reports concerning a potential departure from MLS for Messi, who has been connected with a European comeback or a high-profile transfer to Saudi Arabia.
Italian club Como represents the most recent team associated with pursuing Messi, though the organization's president recently dismissed the rumors with amusement.
