Lisandro Martinez Fires Up as Man Utd Teammate Unleashes Explosive Response

If Manchester United weren't already stinging from Lisandro Martínez's blunt criticism of the club's summer transfer activity, Amad Diallo did little to ease the tension by taking to social media to express what he described as a "f---ing disgrace."

It's somewhat ironic that this controversy has emerged following an improved showing. United carved out a host of opportunities after falling behind early to Atlético Madrid and could easily have been level or even ahead before Leny Yoro's contentious second-half red card.

Michael Carrick had taken the daring step of overhauling his entire lineup, deploying Bruno Fernandes in an unfamiliar right wing role while fielding all three of the club's midfield summer recruits together from the start. "We feel the game was there for us," the manager honestly acknowledged, "so we could and should have gotten more from it."

Yet, those promising signs have been overshadowed by Martínez's scathing assessment of United's recent recruitment. The center back "expected more" than three first-team midfield additions, without explicitly identifying the other areas requiring reinforcement — though one could argue his own position on the pitch might warrant that same scrutiny.

While Martínez was eager to speak to any broadcaster willing to put a microphone in front of him, his teammate Amad claimed: "I have no words," in a Snapchat post — though he had managed to find some vocabulary beforehand, writing: "F---ing disgrace."

It remains unclear exactly what aspect of the previous night Amad found so disgraceful — whether it was United's 2–0 defeat, the referee's decision to dismiss Yoro, Martínez's remarks, Jason Wilcox's transfer dealings, or Bryan Mbeumo's finishing.

Regardless of the target of Amad's frustration, the readiness of United's players to air their grievances publicly drew the wrath of the club's all-time leading scorer.

'Rip the Dressing Room Apart'—Man Utd Sent Strong Warning by Club Legend

While Wayne Rooney generally appreciates any player response that avoids bland, media-trained platitudes, United's former striker was unimpressed by both the timing and substance of Martínez's public outburst.

"Something like that will rip that dressing room apart," Rooney cautioned during his role as an Amazon Prime Video pundit. "That interview is not going to help the situation the club are in at the minute. That's going to bring a greater noise around it; the players are not happy, they're not settled, they don't trust in their teammates. That's not going to help at all."

Rooney added, "I think he has maybe gone a bit too far. That's for the manager, and that should really stay internal."

Martínez's outburst may have demonstrated that "he cares" — which Rooney seemed to regard as a minimal standard of praise — and the former striker acknowledged there was some merit to his frustrations: "I think in some ways he is right in terms of the club needs to invest more, at the top end of the pitch and in defense as well."

However, Rooney contended that Martínez is hardly in a position to be making public demands given his recent performances on the field. "He is probably one of the players who is out the door through his performance. His performances haven't been good enough," the retired forward remarked bluntly.

"Bruno [Fernandes] is the only one who has any right to come out and say anything like that as captain. And even then it should be behind closed doors if there are issues, which does happen.

"It looks like that was a bit of an agenda; he's wanted to say that, because that doesn't mirror the performance," Rooney concluded. "I thought the performance was better. It's a bit disrespectful to his teammates as well. He is disrespecting his teammates because he's saying the team isn't good enough."
