Liverpool Axes Seven Players in Major Squad Overhaul for 2025-26 Campaign

Liverpool officially released seven players on free transfers when their contracts expired on Monday, June 30.

The club submitted their retained list to the Premier League during the first week of June, which confirmed the departure of seven academy players and disclosed which young players received new contract offers.

Trent Alexander-Arnold was initially expected to be the sole first-team player leaving Liverpool without a transfer fee this summer, but Real Madrid's willingness to pay the Merseysiders £8.4 million (€10 million, $11.4 million) for the right-back's services ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup resulted in his departure earlier in June.

The transfer fee Liverpool secured for Alexander-Arnold ensures that only seven players left the club without generating revenue, with these youngsters being Jakub Ojrzyński, Dominic Corness, Reece Trueman, Jacob Poytress, Lee Jonas, Harry Evers and Louis Enahoro-Marcus.

None of these seven players had previously featured in Liverpool's senior squad and must now seek new clubs during the summer transfer window after being released from Anfield.

Liverpool's retained list announcement also disclosed that contract extensions were offered to eight promising youngsters, including Ranel Young, Terence Miles, Wellity Lucky, Michael Laffey, Kyle Kelly, Keyrol Figueroa, Emmanuel Airoboma and Kareem Ahmed, all of whom could potentially remain at the club.

The Merseyside club has already been extremely active in the transfer window, making significant investments in Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong. Goalkeepers Ármin Pésci and Freddie Woodman have also joined the squad.

Following Alexander-Arnold's departure, Caoimhín Kelleher and Nat Phillips have also exited the club, while Harvey Davies and Vítězslav Jaroš have been sent out on loan for the 2025–26 campaign.
