Liverpool Boldly Declares Itself 'England's Biggest Club' While Securing Fourth Summer Transfer

Liverpool have formally announced the signing of Milos Kerkez as their newest addition during what has become a particularly active summer transfer period.
The Merseyside club has already secured Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen, while also bringing in Kerkez's fellow Hungarian Ármin Pécsi to strengthen their goalkeeping department.
Among all the new signings, Kerkez's arrival has generated the most excitement and speculation over recent months. The ex-Bournemouth defender traveled from Belgrade to the UK on Monday for his medical examination before the official club announcement.
Sources suggest Liverpool invested £40 million ($54.4 million) to secure the 21-year-old's services, exceeding the fee paid for Frimpong and establishing Kerkez as the club's most costly fullback acquisition ever.
"I feel incredibly pleased," Kerkez shared with club journalists. "This represents a tremendous honor and privilege for me, joining one of the world's greatest football clubs, England's premier institution. I'm genuinely thrilled and eager to begin.
"Following this, I'll return home to spend some quality time in my hometown, then I'm looking forward to returning, putting on the training gear, and beginning preparations for the upcoming season."
Possessing exceptional stamina and understanding of sophisticated pressing systems developed through two seasons under Andoni Iraola's guidance on England's south coast, Kerkez potentially offers a considerable improvement over Liverpool's current left-back alternatives. While Andy Robertson has expressed his determination to remain and compete for his position, he has reportedly attracted interest from Atlético Madrid.
Kerkez featured in every Premier League fixture for Bournemouth during the previous campaign, recording a personal best of five assists—matching the output of Liverpool's coveted winger Luis Díaz.
During the previous season, Iraola praised the progress his young defender made throughout the 2024–25 season. "Milos has shown tremendous improvement compared to the previous campaign, and I believe he has performed excellently, particularly in defensive aspects," the Spanish manager expressed.
"I believe he's a player whose exceptional fitness allows him to reach the final third numerous times with controlled possession to deliver quality crosses. The number of assists and quality passes he provided was relatively modest last season, despite his frequent forward runs and strong attacking capabilities.
"However, this season I believe his decision-making has improved significantly. He's enhancing the quality of his deliveries and showing greater composure in the final third."
