Liverpool Boss Finally Speaks Out on Trent Alexander-Arnold's Shocking Real Madrid Transfer

Liverpool's chairman Tom Werner has disclosed that the club "acknowledges" Trent Alexander-Arnold's choice to let his contract expire and make the move to Real Madrid.

Alexander-Arnold made the determination in recent months that it was the appropriate moment for a fresh opportunity, choosing not to extend his stay at Anfield with a new deal. This decision ignited anger among certain supporter groups, with questions raised about his commitment to his childhood club, particularly since he would be departing without a transfer fee.

Ultimately, Liverpool did secure some financial compensation thanks to Real Madrid's eagerness to bring Trent Alexander-Arnold aboard before the FIFA Club World Cup, though the sum was minimal compared to his true market value while under contract.

Liverpool swiftly adapted, acquiring Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen as part of an extensive record-setting transfer window following their Premier League championship victory.

"We certainly acknowledge that Trent has chosen to move forward," Werner stated to the Liverpool Echo.

"I shared with someone recently about encountering Trent during the final weekend of the campaign, alongside Billy [Hogan, CEO] and I wanted to personally express our gratitude as an organization for everything he contributed. He shared with me a photograph from when he was seven years old, during his early days at the academy, and I hold deep appreciation for all his achievements, so it's his moment to progress and our time to find his replacement.

"We certainly extend our best wishes to him and I comprehend the feelings of fans who felt let down, and we experienced disappointment as well, but it's overshadowed by my cherished recollections of him.

"I'll always remember that incredible pass he delivered, that corner kick, leading to the fourth goal against Barcelona [in 2019]. That moment was pure brilliance and as someone who loves football, witnessing his assists, how he could deliver the ball over 30 yards to an exact location and set up a goal was simply...[lost for words].

"...it's clear why Real Madrid are thrilled!"
