Liverpool Face Fierce Competition from Premier League Rival in Marc Guehi Battle

Tottenham Hotspur maintain their pursuit of Crystal Palace defender Marc Guéhi, who continues to be a primary target for Liverpool as well.

The England defender's future has been under intense scrutiny throughout the summer months. With his contract set to expire in under twelve months, reports suggest Guéhi has declined to extend his stay at Palace, creating a challenging situation for the club. Should they fail to offload their influential vice-captain before the season ends, he could depart as a free agent.

Given this impasse, Palace have reportedly established a fair valuation of £40-45 million ($54.9-61.8 million) for the 25-year-old international who is entering his peak years. However, Liverpool's pursuit of another summer signing could face complications due to Tottenham's involvement.

Spurs were strongly associated with Guéhi during the winter transfer period and allegedly saw multiple offers rejected by Palace. This occurred before news emerged that the defender was prepared to see out his current deal, which has since weakened the Eagles' negotiating position. The Telegraph reports that Tottenham are "considering" another attempt to secure Guéhi.

Thomas Frank possesses adequate defensive depth. Beyond the established partnership of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, Tottenham have Kevin Danso and Radu Drăgușin as backup options. Nevertheless, Romero has publicly expressed interest in a Spanish move—"I'd love to, honestly," he revealed in April.

Should Romero exit, Tottenham would likely seek a suitable replacement. The Telegraph notes that Spurs are tracking Bournemouth's Illia Zabarnyi, who has attracted attention from Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool too.

Frank brushed aside speculation about defensive reinforcements as mere "theory" during his inaugural press briefing. "Right now he's here," the Danish manager stated firmly regarding Romero, "that's my focus. While players remain at the club, I'll train them and utilize them. He's absolutely here and fully dedicated. I know he's eager for the upcoming season."

The destinations for both Romero and Guéhi in the forthcoming campaign remain uncertain.
