It appears that only a deep Champions League run can provide Liverpool with any comfort during a hugely disappointing 2025–26 campaign.

Alexander Isak Trains Ahead of First Leg
Alexander Isak is inching closer to his long-anticipated return from a broken leg, having rejoined training last week. Slot opted against taking any chances on Saturday, leaving Isak out of the matchday squad, but the Liverpool manager is optimistic that the Swedish striker will travel to Paris for the opening leg.
Isak participated in group training on Tuesday and could be in line to make his first appearance for the Reds in 2026.

GK: Giorgi Mamardashvili—The Georgian was helpless against Erling Haaland's onslaught and could do little to spare Liverpool from a heavy defeat on Saturday. CB: Virgil van Dijk—Liverpool will be in serious trouble if their skipper replicates the poor display he put in on Saturday.
LB: Andy Robertson—Slot is reluctant to field Frimpong and Milos Kerkez simultaneously, so experienced fullback Robertson will come in to provide balance on the left.
DM: Ryan Gravenberch—This is a significant occasion for Gravenberch, who has the ability to absorb Parisian pressure and hurt the hosts on the counter.
DM: Alexis Mac Allister—A new haircut hasn't sparked a revival in form for Mac Allister, and Liverpool will need the Argentine to perform at his best alongside Gravenberch in this quarterfinal.
AM: Dominik Szoboszlai—Szoboszlai is a player Liverpool can rely on when things get tough, with the Hungarian expected to operate in a wide-ranging midfield role that allows him to influence all phases of play.
AM: Florian Wirtz—The German creator impressed on international duty but reverted to a subdued showing at the weekend. Wirtz has yet to truly stamp his authority on the biggest occasions.
ST: Mohamed Salah—Salah's farewell tour got off to a rough start with a thrashing at the Etihad, where the Egyptian also missed a penalty at 4–0. Nevertheless, Slot has recently found some success deploying the Liverpool legend in a more central and narrow attacking role.
ST: Hugo Ekitiké—A strike partnership between Isak and Ekitiké could be on the horizon, with the latter standing out as the highlight of Liverpool's record-breaking summer business. The Frenchman failed to establish himself in Paris, so he will be eager to make his former club pay across these two legs.
