Liverpool Honor Diogo Jota With Eternal 'Forever 20' Tribute Unveiled At Anfield

As the first anniversary of Diogo Jota and André Silva's tragic deaths approaches, Liverpool has unveiled a heartfelt permanent memorial at Anfield to honor the memory of the two brothers.

Jota and Silva lost their lives on July 3, 2025, in a car crash in the Spanish region of Zamora. The football world united in grief for the brothers, not only on Merseyside and in their native Portugal, but across every corner of the globe.

Liverpool, the club Jota called home for five years, retired his number 20 shirt ahead of the 2025–26 season. Now, a year on, the Reds have revealed a sculpture by Emma Rodgers, situated on 97 Avenue at Anfield.

The tribute, titled 'Forever 20,' showcases an elegant flowing heart sculpture mounted atop a Granby Rock-faced stone plinth. The heart, a nod to Jota's iconic goal celebration, bears the brothers' shirt numbers 20 and 30, along with the words from Jota's beloved Liverpool chant.

The stone plinth displays both brothers' names and YNWA beneath 'Forever 20' and the words 'He will take us to victory. Oh, his name is Diogo.'

Delicate details preserved in wax decorate the memorial, including fragments of scarves and shirts left by supporters, while a single flower once placed by a fan at Jota's tribute has been cast in bronze. A PlayStation controller also sits on the plinth, another tribute to Jota's celebrated signature gesture.

The reverse of the memorial reads, "In its creation, and through the hands of sculptor Emma Rodgers, this memorial has been inspired by the many personal tributes and mementoes left at Anfield by visitors from across the international football community.

"Some of these tributes are contained within the sculpture and plinth via a unique manufacturing process. It means they are forever embedded. Based on a continuous flowing heart design incorporating the brothers' shirt numbers 20 and 30, the artwork not only conveys the enduring bond they shared, but also expresses the love and admiration in which they were held by their family, teammates and fans—with the heart gesture itself reflecting Diogo's signature goal celebration.

"This memorial honors the brothers' lives and celebrates their lasting legacy."
