Liverpool Icon Drops Bombshell Prediction About Mohamed Salah's 2026 Exit
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has proposed that the concluding match of the 2025–26 season might serve as the "ideal" moment for the club to honor Anfield icon Mohamed Salah with a proper send-off.
Following what was considered one of the greatest individual campaigns in the 138-year span of English top-flight football, Salah's displays during the opening stages of this season attracted considerable criticism.
The Egyptian forward's production fell significantly below the standards everyone had grown accustomed to, and after being benched by head coach Arne Slot, he made explosive public statements claiming he felt "thrown under the bus" by the organization. Salah also stated that his relationship with Slot was practically non-existent, while his comments suggesting he shouldn't have to compete for his starting position frustrated many supporters.
Carragher found himself involved in his own disagreement with Salah, who has since been temporarily removed from this uncomfortable situation due to the well-timed Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
Slot has attempted to downplay the entire controversy, but significant issues remain to be addressed when Salah eventually returns from international duty. No one can predict his next moves or whether he will continue as a Liverpool player after this summer.
'The Ideal, Orchestrated Farewell'

While sharing his 2026 forecasts in a Daily Telegraph column, which feature predictions like Bayern Munich claiming the Champions League and France securing the World Cup, Carragher believes Liverpool "cannot risk" losing Salah during January but might consider his departure in the summer.
"Considering Liverpool's injury crisis following Alexander Isak's leg fracture, the club cannot risk allowing Salah's departure during the January window," Carragher explained.
"Following the confrontation earlier this campaign, the Africa Cup of Nations has arrived at an opportune moment for all parties to step back. The coming months might develop into an extended farewell for Salah, though.
"The present Liverpool chapter will always be linked with Salah. He ranks among the greatest players in Liverpool and Premier League history, so an emotional goodbye during this season's final match would represent the ideal, orchestrated farewell."
