Liverpool Launch Official Bid to Land Crystal Palace Star Marc Guehi

Liverpool's massive summer transfer expenditure may extend through the closing days of the window after reportedly making a formal bid for Crystal Palace skipper Marc Guéhi.

Liverpool have received encouragement in their chase of Alexander Isak following Newcastle United's acquisition of German forward Nick Woltemade, described as a potential replacement for the restless Swedish striker.

However, the Reds have shown defensive frailties in the season's early stages, allowing four goals in their opening two Premier League matches, underlining the necessity for reinforcement. Apart from limited squad depth, Ibrahima Konaté's contract expires next summer without a renewal agreement in place.

Guéhi has emerged as the primary objective, having proven himself among the Premier League's finest defenders and securing regular England selection. The 25-year-old defender enters his contract's final year, prompting Liverpool to pursue a bargain acquisition.

The Athletic reports that a "formal bid" has been submitted to Crystal Palace, valued at £35 million ($47.3 million), without additional clauses. The Eagles have yet to reply and are believed to be seeking "backup options" should Guéhi depart.

Paul Joyce from The Times confirmed that Liverpool will reject any suggestion of Joe Gomez joining Selhurst Park on loan within any agreement. While Palace considered this option, it remains a "dead end" for the Reds.

Palace manager Oliver Glasner expressed his desire for Guéhi to remain until after the club's crucial Conference League play-off versus Fredrikstad, which has now concluded.

"Finding a Marc Guéhi substitute capable of immediate Premier League impact is impossible," Glasner stated during Friday's press conference. Previously, he suggested Guéhi might be permitted to leave: "It was understood he would feature in this Norwegian fixture, then we'll observe what develops."
