Liverpool Push to Fast-Track Fringe Defender's Departure

As the summer transfer window enters its final fortnight, Liverpool continue their efforts to facilitate Kostas Tsimikas's departure from the club.

The signing of Milos Kerkez alongside the established presence of veteran left-back Andrew Robertson provides Arne Slot with ample depth at the position, rendering Tsimikas surplus to requirements. According to Fabrizio Romano reports, Liverpool are looking to expedite the Greek defender's exit, even considering a temporary loan arrangement.

Tsimikas was omitted from Liverpool's Community Shield clash with Crystal Palace and their 2025–26 Premier League season opener versus Bournemouth. It's crystal clear that he must seek opportunities elsewhere to secure regular first-team football.

Signs pointing toward Tsimikas's potential exit have been evident since the conclusion of the 2024–25 campaign. Throughout Slot's inaugural season as manager, the 29-year-old full-back made only 18 starts in all competitions and accumulated 833 minutes in Premier League action. With Kerkez now positioned above him in the pecking order, his prospects at the club appear increasingly bleak.

Liverpool's primary objective is to secure a permanent transfer for Tsimikas, though with the transfer deadline fast approaching, the club may be prepared to relax their position and consider a temporary arrangement, given his contract runs through 2027.

Tsimikas has proven to be a reliable understudy to Robertson since his arrival at Liverpool during the summer of 2020. Following his move from Olympiacos, he has registered 115 appearances for the Merseyside club.

Moving Tsimikas on could potentially provide Liverpool with additional resources in their pursuit of final reinforcements for the 2025–26 campaign. The club has already conducted significant business in both directions during the summer window, though speculation persists regarding potential moves for defender Marc Guehi and striker Alexander Isak.

Even with their Premier League title defense already underway, Liverpool may still emerge as major players in the remaining weeks of the summer transfer market.
