Liverpool Reach Out to Yan Diomande as They Look to Ignite the Andoni Iraola Revolution

Liverpool have reportedly intensified their pursuit of a replacement for Mohamed Salah, reaching out to RB Leipzig regarding 19-year-old Yan Diomande.

The Reds have had their eye on the teenage prodigy for several months, as have Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea. Diomande is among the most coveted young talents available—and Leipzig are well aware of that fact.

The German club has held firm in its reluctance to sell the forward unless a truly irresistible offer lands on the table. Leipzig are believed to be demanding in excess of $151.2 million (£112.4 million, €130 million) for Diomande, yet the hefty price tag appears to have done little to deter Liverpool.

The Athletic reports that the Reds have made direct contact with Leipzig and are now in the "strongest position" to secure a potential deal with the player compared to any of the other clubs pursuing Diomande's signature.

The development arrives on the same day Liverpool confirmed former Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola as Arne Slot's replacement, potentially signaling the club's key priorities as the summer transfer window approaches.

Diomande has been repeatedly pressed with questions about his future as he gears up for the 2026 World Cup with Côte d'Ivoire. The teenager has played his cards close to his chest, rarely giving much away, and has consistently steered conversations back toward the upcoming tournament.

Yet he couldn't resist expressing his admiration for Paris Saint-Germain—a comment that undoubtedly raised eyebrows both in the French capital and on Merseyside.

When quizzed about PSG by L'Équipe, Diomande said, "It's a team I've loved since I was little, but I'm not thinking about the future, I'm staying focused on the World Cup. We'll see what happens after that."

Diomande wrapped up the 2025–26 campaign with 13 goals and nine assists across 36 appearances in all competitions. He is set to feature prominently for Côte d'Ivoire in North America this summer, where standout displays could push his value—and asking price—even higher.

Why Liverpool Is the Better Move for Diomande Than PSG

It goes without saying that landing a young talent with Diomande's dribbling ability and pace would appeal to Luis Enrique. There is also an undeniable attraction to joining the back-to-back Champions League winners for the 19-year-old, particularly given his lifelong support for the club.

However, the move may not be the most logical choice for the Leipzig starlet, who would face a tough battle to nail down a starting spot with Désiré Doué on the right wing and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia on the left.

Should he opt for Liverpool instead, a starting berth would be there for the taking. Diomande would still need to earn his place, but a switch to Merseyside presents an enticing opportunity offering more playing time and greater scope to develop his game in the world's most competitive league.

Diomande may not be in any hurry to force a transfer, however, preferring to continue his development at Leipzig. "My contract is until 2030 so I have four more years," he told Sky Sports.

"I want to be one of the best on the field. But I want to go slowly, step by step to reach what I want to do."
