Liverpool have announced that a consortium featuring Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has acquired a minority stake in the club.
The 62-year-old, who, according to Forbes, ranks as the world's third-wealthiest individual with an estimated net worth of around $271 billion, is joined in the consortium by Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin, his wife Elaine Saverin, and former Queens Park Rangers co-owner Amit Bhatia. Each member will hold differing levels of involvement with the club.
The Athletic reports that the investment group, known as K5 Sports Fund, has acquired between 30 percent and one-third of Liverpool from current owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG). This marks Bezos's first foray into sports team ownership, following longstanding speculation connecting him to various NFL franchises.
Liverpool's valuation is estimated to fall between $6.8 billion and $8.1 billion, with the deal reportedly surpassing $2 billion in value, according to BBC Sport.
FSG have been receptive to outside investment for several years, though this represents the first financial injection since they offloaded a three percent stake to Dynasty Equity back in September 2023.
Liverpool Owners Confirm Investment With Club Statement

FSG's official club statement read: "The strategic investment supports Liverpool F.C.'s long-term growth ambitions by bringing together experts from across global business, technology, and investment. The consortium partners will work with FSG and the club's leadership team to evaluate opportunities that enhance the club's objectives on and off the pitch. FSG continues to retain majority ownership and operational control of Liverpool F.C."
FSG President Mike Gordon commented: "Liverpool has always been built on thinking beyond a single season and making decisions with the club's long-term interests at heart. That philosophy continues to draw interest from respected investors and business leaders across the globe.
"As we assessed this opportunity, it became evident that Amit and the consortium shared our long-term vision and understanding of what makes Liverpool truly unique. Their expertise and insight will complement the strong foundation already established, and we look forward to collaborating together."
How Involved Will Bezos Be at Liverpool?

Liverpool fans worried about sweeping changes to the club's operations and business model need not be alarmed by the investment from Bezos and his partners.
The Athletic has confirmed that FSG will retain majority control of Liverpool and continue overseeing day-to-day operations, with no changes expected to the existing leadership structure.
Bhatia serves as the lead partner in the deal and assumes the role of vice-chairman, while Eduardo and Elaine Saverin will each join him on the club's board. Bezos, however, will not hold a board seat, limiting his overall influence.
What Does This Mean for Liverpool's Transfer Activity?

The Premier League's Squad Cost Ratio regulations, which recently superseded the Profit and Sustainability rules, mean that K5 Sports' investment cannot directly translate into increased transfer spending or higher player wages.
The Squad Cost Ratio rules cap how much top-flight English clubs can spend relative to the revenue they generate.
Liverpool's revenue figures are already highly impressive—generating approximately €836 million throughout the 2024–25 season, per the Deloitte Football Money League—but new investment unlocks additional sponsorship avenues, which in turn elevates overall revenue and enables greater spending in the transfer market.
