Liverpool Star Shocks by Snubbing England in Bold 2026 World Cup Predictions
Liverpool star Alexis Mac Allister has overlooked England while selecting his top four contenders for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The midfielder, who claimed World Cup glory with Argentina in 2022, has already assisted La Albiceleste in qualifying for next summer's competition, with the 26-year-old playing a crucial role in their title defense across North America.
"Spain, France and Argentina are contenders," Mac Allister shared with TyC Sports when questioned about who would claim international football's premier trophy. "You could include Brazil in that group. They're experiencing a resurgence, and despite not being at peak form currently, it's a squad filled with exceptional talent, and now they have an excellent manager. Brazil carries its legacy and influence.
England have not yet secured their spot but are approaching qualification for the expanded tournament after claiming victory in their first five qualifying matches. They are beginning to establish themselves under Thomas Tuchel, achieving notable victories against Serbia and Wales recently.
Mac Allister Overlooks England as World Cup Contender

Nevertheless, England's improved performances haven't persuaded the Argentine midfielder of their championship prospects next summer, with the Liverpool player including Argentina among the four primary favorites for the title.
"Currently, I believe Spain and France rank among the world's elite teams, alongside ourselves and perhaps several others that could compete. They possess a defined playing philosophy, but we maintain confidence in our abilities," Mac Allister continued.
Although England currently holds FIFA's fourth-highest ranking, Mac Allister apparently doesn't consider the Three Lions a significant challenge. Tuchel's hiring was designed to end the men's team's painful drought for major honors, with their most recent success being the World Cup victory in 1966.
Mac Allister has also excluded the Netherlands from his preferred choices, which may not sit well with Liverpool's substantial Dutch presence. Arne Slot, Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch, Cody Gakpo and Jeremie Frimpong will all be eager to demonstrate Mac Allister's assessment is incorrect next summer.
