Liverpool Star Shocks Fans by Confessing Secret Real Madrid Dream
Hungary's head coach Marco Rossi has disclosed that Dominik Szoboszlai's ultimate "aspiration" as a professional footballer has consistently been to represent Real Madrid.
Considering his present performance level, most football clubs would eagerly desire to secure a player of Szoboszlai's exceptional quality.
Liverpool's emerging star is receiving praise from fellow players, coaching staff, and even opponents as among Europe's finest talents, sparking speculation about potential moves to major continental clubs. Real Madrid have been cautiously mentioned as possible suitors, and according to the coach who gave 18-year-old Szoboszlai his first international appearance seven years ago, this interest appears reciprocated.
"Based on what I've learned and understood, considering the excellent and close relationship I've maintained with Dominik since his childhood football days, Real Madrid has represented his aspiration," Rossi shared with winwin recently. "Dominik, from the moment he started playing football, has harbored one ambition: to represent Real Madrid."
Whether this specific ambition will materialize remains highly uncertain.

Rossi ensured he qualified his statements, though his disclaimers haven't received widespread attention. "I'm uncertain whether he desires to join Real Madrid or not, but simultaneously, he's presently representing Liverpool, a major club in the English Premier League," the Italian-born manager continued. "I'm unsure if he can make this transition, as it relies on his individual choice, along with his club's decision."
"I don't dismiss the chance of him remaining at Liverpool and extending his agreement there, particularly since he receives significant appreciation within the organization," Rossi observed. "He represents a crucial asset for Liverpool, and Liverpool ranks among the world's most prestigious clubs."
Nevertheless, the talkative manager concluded with his conviction that: "The concept that consistently occupies your thoughts is achieving your aspiration, transforming that vision into concrete reality, and this, in my view, represents the sole factor, and the most crucial element of all, that can influence Szoboszlai's mindset."
Szoboszlai's decision-making has been complicated further by an unresolved contract situation. The 25-year-old maintains an agreement at Anfield through summer 2028 and recently revealed that discussions regarding an extension have stalled completely. "Nothing currently, honestly," he admitted in early February. "Nothing, moving forward ... it's beyond my control. That's how it functions. There's no advancement but if the appropriate proposal arrives then we'll evaluate."
Notably, Szoboszlai emphasized his fondness for the club and Merseyside overall without providing concrete commitments. "We'll observe what develops, hopefully everyone will be satisfied ultimately," he suggested. "Certainly [I wish to remain]. I appreciate the city, I appreciate the club, I enjoy playing alongside these teammates, I adore Anfield, I adore the supporters, we'll see what the future brings.
"It's not my responsibility," he added, significantly. "I would prefer to [remain]. We shall see."
Liverpool face more urgent contractual matters to resolve before discovering the "appropriate proposal" Szoboszlai seeks. However, if they delay excessively, they might create an opportunity for Madrid to make their move.

The speculation linking Real Madrid with a pursuit of Szoboszlai has been largely unfounded so far. Nonetheless, the club under president Florentino Pérez's leadership has rarely hesitated to pursue contemporary football's established superstars.
Paradoxically, Liverpool acquired Szoboszlai in 2023 after conceding defeat to Real Madrid in the competition to secure Jude Bellingham. Now the duo could potentially become colleagues in the Spanish capital.
Madrid's requirement for midfield additions has been evident since Toni Kroos's exit in 2024. Luka Modrić's departure 12 months afterward only expanded a significant gap in the club's pursuit of central dominance. Szoboszlai resembles Federico Valverde more than Kroos or Modric; representing Jürgen Klopp's high-intensity philosophy rather than a calculated pace-controller.
Valverde's individual difficulties this season suggest that Szoboszlai would represent a clear improvement over the troubled Uruguayan, yet Madrid's focus is likely a different style of midfielder.

Szoboszlai's commitment to persevering at Liverpool has earned Arne Slot's admiration. "Dominik represents an excellent illustration of the approach we employ at this club," the Dutch manager praised after Szoboszlai netted in Saturday's FA Cup victory over Brighton & Hove Albion. "We acquire young talents from different leagues, this case [RB] Leipzig, where he was already recognized as a physically impressive player.
"The talent we acquired was already capable but considering his current level, he has improved significantly from where he stood two-and-a-half years ago. That's the result when you recruit young players, provide them adequate time and allow them substantial playing opportunities.
"That's why the development path he has followed can mirror the progression of other players we have recruited from different leagues.
"You can already observe their advancement but I've mentioned repeatedly that next season, the season's conclusion or in two seasons, players like Hugo [Ekitiké] and Florian [Wirtz], since these are two who originated from the Bundesliga, will surpass their current abilities because they're already valuable contributors for us."
Who can predict, perhaps someday Ekitiké and Wirtz will need to resist intense speculation about Real Madrid?
