Liverpool Stars Rally Around Injured Diogo Jota as Van Dijk and Robertson Voice Heartfelt Support

Several of Diogo Jota's Liverpool colleagues have expressed heartfelt condolences after the Portuguese player's tragic passing.

The football community was stunned on Thursday upon learning of Jota's death in a vehicle collision in Spain, prompting an immediate wave of grief. Previous manager Jürgen Klopp issued a touching statement, while current coach Arne Slot published an emotional message honoring Jota's memory.

Harvey Elliott, Darwin Núñez and Dominik Szoboszlai conveyed their sympathies, with numerous other squad members following suit.

Defender Andy Robertson chose to highlight Jota's personal qualities beyond the sport, acknowledging that the player he nicknamed 'Diogo MacJota' had "enriched his existence".

"I'm speechless," Luis Díaz expressed. "My heart aches deeply. Not only for his contributions on the field, but for the individual he was away from it.

"Some acts remain unforgettable, and Diogo showed me kindness that will stay with me forever. My embrace extends to Rute, his three children and his loved ones. Rest peacefully, Diogo and André."

Ibrahima Konaté shared a heartfelt video message for his "brother" Jota, promising assistance to his family and encouraging supporters, opponents and people worldwide to cherish life.

"I want to speak to everyone: today we lost Diogo and his brother. Yesterday it was another person. Tomorrow it might be any of us," he expressed. "Let's treasure each moment life gives us, with our loved ones, companions, even those we don't know. Let's strive to live harmoniously and share love with one another. We cannot predict what lies ahead."

Virgil van Dijk stated: "I cannot accept this reality, I refuse to accept it. Completely heartbroken and in utter shock.

"Such an incredible person, such a talented athlete, but above all such a devoted family man. You were precious to all of us and always will be! For your family to lose two sons, a spouse and a father is beyond comprehension. So harsh and unjust. My heart breaks for your wonderful family, for Rute and for your children. I vow that during these challenging times and always we will support your family.

"A winner always, number 20 always. It was an honor to play alongside you, and to call you my friend away from the game. We will miss you tremendously and never forget you. Your impact will endure, we will ensure it!

"Rest in eternal peace Diogo & André."

Messages also came from several former colleagues. Caoimhín Kelleher, who transferred to Brentford this summer, shared an extensive tribute to Jota, along with new Real Madrid player Trent Alexander-Arnold.

"Finding appropriate words is incredibly challenging when your mind and soul refuse to accept that someone you deeply care about is gone," the former Liverpool defender expressed.

"Diogo, your family meant everything to you. They were your universe. For Rute, his children, and his parents, we all share in this heartbreak. And for André too. Siblings and closest friends.

"When the pain subsides, I want to remember Diogo with joy. So many moments of laughter and happiness. He was an exceptional teammate and a genuine friend.

"Always number 20. Rest in peace, Diogo."
