Liverpool Stars Rally to Celebrate Diogo Jota as Birthday Tributes Pour In
Liverpool posted a heartfelt tribute to Diogo Jota's family on what should have been the Portuguese player's 29th birthday.
Jota's life was cut short in a devastating car crash in July, creating waves of grief worldwide as supporters from every team united to honor the beloved Liverpool player.
Liverpool has pledged to honor Jota's full contract value to his family. The talented attacker had wed his partner Rute merely 11 days prior to the fatal incident, which also took the life of his sibling André Silva.
Honoring Jota's memory on Thursday, Liverpool posted on social media: "Today, like every day, we honor Diogo Jota on what should have been his 29th birthday.
"Our complete love, thoughts and prayers remain with his wife Rute, his children, parents and entire family and friends, along with those of his brother, André.
"Always in our hearts, always our number 20."
Wolves, Portugal Join Jota Tributes
Clubs worldwide with ties to Jota also seized the moment to participate in the commemorations.
Paços de Ferreira, the Portuguese club where Jota began his professional career, shared an image of the striker with the caption: "We honor you, Jotinha."
"Always with us," came the tribute from Portuguese powerhouse Porto, while the national squad stated: "Your impact continues to motivate us. Always our number 21. Our hearts, thoughts, and prayers stay with your family."
Additionally, there was a tribute from Wolverhampton Wanderers, Jota's initial English club and the team where he spent the longest period besides his five seasons at Liverpool.
"Remembering Diogo today, on the day he would have celebrated 29," Wolves posted.
"Sending our love to his family and dear ones. He will always be remembered."
