Liverpool Stars Who Will Miss Out on the 2026 World Cup Revealed

Following a disappointing season for the defending Premier League champions, Liverpool players will be looking to bounce back with their national sides at this summer's World Cup.

Many of Liverpool's top performers will be joining their international squads for the summer tournament, with those representing nations like Brazil, France and Argentina holding genuine hopes of returning to Merseyside in July as world champions.

However, not everyone at Liverpool is so lucky. Several first-team players will miss the opportunity to represent their country on football's biggest stage, as their nations failed to secure a spot in the 48-team tournament in North America.

Here are the Liverpool players who will not be featuring at the World Cup.

Every Liverpool Player Not Playing at the 2026 World Cup

Giorgi Mamardashvili

While Alisson heads to North America with record world champions Brazil, his Liverpool backup won't be joining him. Giorgi Mamardashvili, who has made only sporadic appearances in his first season at Anfield, saw his Georgia side fall short in qualifying.

Despite a strong showing at Euro 2024, Georgia's World Cup qualifying campaign was a disaster. The side managed just three points from six group stage matches against Spain, Türkiye and Bulgaria.

Milos Kerkez

A tough debut season at Liverpool has been further soured by international heartbreak for Milos Kerkez. Hungary came agonizingly close to clinching a playoff spot in November's final qualifier, only for a late Republic of Ireland winner in a dramatic 3–2 loss to send Kerkez's side crashing out.

Kerkez will now enjoy a free summer, which could actually benefit Liverpool. A full preseason without interruption may prove invaluable as the young defender continues to adapt to the demands of playing for one of football's elite clubs.

Conor Bradley

Northern Ireland, unlike Hungary, did manage to reach the European qualification playoffs, but a semifinal clash with Italy was always going to be a bridge too far. The 2–0 loss in Bergamo brought their North America dreams to an end.

Conor Bradley was a notable absentee for Northern Ireland in that match, with the right back ruled out for the remainder of the season due to a knee injury. He would have been a major doubt for the tournament even had Northern Ireland qualified.

Giovanni Leoni

Italy may have beaten Northern Ireland in a playoff semifinal, but for the third consecutive World Cup qualifying campaign, the four-time champions still failed to reach the tournament. Yet another humiliating playoff final defeat, this time against Bosnia and Herzegovina, means the Azzurri will be watching from the sidelines once again.

Giovanni Leoni was never realistically going to feature in Italy's squad, particularly following a season-ending ACL injury in September, but he will no doubt be deeply frustrated after watching his nation suffer another qualifying collapse.

Dominik Szoboszlai

Dominik Szoboszlai

Dominik Szoboszlai's outstanding season with Liverpool deserved to carry over into the summer, but the dynamic midfielder joins fellow Hungarian Kerkez among the notable World Cup absentees.

Hungary's qualification failure will be a bitter pill for captain Szoboszlai, particularly given his impressive form for the Reds, and the two-time finalist will now have to wait until 2030 for a first World Cup appearance since 1986.

Federico Chiesa

Federico Chiesa

A standout performer at Euro 2020, Federico Chiesa could have earned a place in Italy's squad for this summer's tournament, though whether his limited contributions at Liverpool would have been sufficient to secure selection will now remain unanswered.

It looks increasingly doubtful that Chiesa will remain at Liverpool heading into next season, and the World Cup could have given the winger a platform to revive his career and attract fresh interest.
